AI overview

Own the strategy and delivery of a high-impact payroll capability while collaborating closely with engineering and customer success teams to drive innovation and user satisfaction.

Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Role (your why)

Datapay is hiring a Senior Product Manager to own the strategy and delivery of a high-impact, calculation-heavy payroll capability. You’ll shape the product vision, drive discovery, and steward the roadmap in close collaboration with engineering, customer success and go-to-market teams. You’ll also help build an agentic platform where agents are first-class consumers of calculator APIs, enabling programmable, reliable, and scalable payroll calculations for automated workflows and partner integrations. Your leadership will unlock reliable, scalable payroll calculations, ensure regulatory alignment, and deliver delightful experiences for customers and partners. If you thrive solving complex problems with data-driven decisions, mentoring others, and building critical infrastructure that touches every payroll cycle, this is your role

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of product management experience delivering high-impact products (fintech/payroll or regulated domains preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to combine qualitative insights and quantitative data to inform decisions
  • Proven track record writing Product Backlog Items (PBIs) and acceptance criteria, and managing a backlog to maximize value
  • Experience leading discovery, user research, and incorporating customer feedback into the product strategy
  • Experience with User Acceptance Testing (UAT), change management, and launching products that achieve strong adoption with GTM, professional services, and customer success
  • High-level understanding of software architecture and the tech stack; ability to collaborate effectively with engineers on design trade-offs
  • Familiarity with Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and aligning product work with company goals
  • Proficiency with AI tools for ideation, research, PBI creation, and documentation; comfortable with rapid prototyping and validation
  • Excellent stakeholder management, written and verbal communication, and a track record of leading cross-functional teams
  • Comfort navigating a calculation-heavy, regulatory domain, making sound, high-judgment trade-offs
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of learning, mentorship, and continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate the product vision and strategy for the payroll calculation domain; align with company OKRs and establish measurable outcomes
  • Lead discovery, prioritization, and backlog management; translate business rules, regulatory requirements, and customer needs into PBIs and acceptance criteria
  • Own end-to-end delivery with cross-functional teams (engineering, GTM, and customer success); ensure timely, high-quality releases
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis; stay current on payroll regulations, tax rules, and industry trends to inform roadmaps
  • Foster strong stakeholder relationships; keep leadership informed of progress, trade-offs, and impact
  • Oversee User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and change management to ensure smooth adoption and minimal friction for users
  • Maintain a high-level understanding of software architecture; guide scalable, reliable, and accurate calculation capabilities
  • Monitor product performance against objectives; perform post-launch analyses and iterate on next steps
  • Mentor junior product managers and promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement
