About the role

You’ll partner closely with the Design System Product Design Manager, engineers, and designers across the company to evolve the system that powers our mobile and web experiences.

At Wealthsimple, design is a core part of how we build trust with our clients and help Canadians reach financial freedom. Our design system enables teams to ship high-quality, consistent experiences quickly while maintaining a strong and cohesive visual language across our platform.

In this role, you’ll help shape the foundations, components, and patterns that product teams rely on every day. You’ll collaborate with teams across R&D to understand real product needs, translate them into scalable solutions, and ensure the system continues to grow alongside the company.

This role sits at the intersection of craft, systems thinking, and collaboration, and is ideal for someone excited about building the tools and foundations that empower teams to build great products at scale.

What you’ll do

  • Help define, evolve, and maintain Wealthsimple’s visual language and component library, including typography, color, iconography, and UI patterns.

  • Design and refine reusable components, tokens, and interaction patterns that enable teams to build consistent, high-quality experiences across web and mobile.

  • Improve the contribution model so teams can effectively propose, build, and scale new components from real product use cases.

  • Develop clear documentation, guidelines, and tooling that help teams adopt and use the design system with confidence.

  • Champion accessibility, usability, and design quality across the system.

  • Partner closely with the Brand team to ensure alignment between Wealthsimple’s brand expression and product experience.

  • Support and guide product teams using the system through reviews, feedback, and collaborative problem solving.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve the system and drive improvements with a strong bias toward action.

  • Act as an advocate for systems thinking and consistency across the design organization.

Skills you bring

  • Strong visual design and product thinking with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Experience designing and maintaining design systems, component libraries, or UI frameworks at scale.

  • Deep understanding of interaction design, layout systems, typography, and visual hierarchy.

  • Experience designing for both mobile and web platforms.

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.

  • Experience collaborating closely with product management and engineering partners.

  • Ability to balance system scalability with real product needs, making thoughtful tradeoffs when required.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate design decisions.
