About the role

AI has upended how developers learn, get hired, and grow their careers. HackerRank has already helped 26M+ developers build skills and find jobs. Now, we are reinventing the developer lifecycle with AI: prepare with AI mock interviewers, get hired with AI proctors and coding assistants, and upskill with AI tutors.

Our newest business line, Astra, is advancing the field of software engineering itself. We work with frontier labs to curate and annotate datasets that train AI models to be better collaborators and more effective agents.

We are hiring a Product Designer to serve as the founding designer of this initiative. You will own the end-to-end experience of attracting, building, and engaging a network of expert AI trainers, creating the industry benchmark for software engineering. The right person is ready to dive deep into new technology, feels comfortable vibe-coding alongside engineers, and is hungry for immediate impact.

What you’ll do

  • Work closely with peers and leaders in Engineering and Product to conceptualize new experiences and drive their design from ideation to visual and interactive design through prototyping.
  • Test and validate ideas through interviews, prototypes, and proof of concept evaluation.
  • Collaborate with your team to prioritize and scope new investments.
  • Proactively push for top-quality experiences by constantly developing your understanding of the developer market and ecosystem, competitive products, new UX paradigms.
  • Contribute to HackerRank’s design system and documentation, and work with other designers to push our design culture and standards further.
  • Partner with other designers on overlapping journeys and new ideas across the HackerRank platform.

  • You have hands-on product design experience that led to both business impact and user delight.
  • A strong portfolio of thoughtful case studies across product, visual, and interaction design.
  • Experience with AI models and tools, along with a clear point of view on where the space is headed.
  • Someone who holds the bar on quality - and isn’t afraid to challenge peers or leadership to do the same.
  • Bring an owner’s mindset, set personal goals, and work through ambiguity without slowing down.
  • Collaborate deeply - pulling others into creative thinking and picking up new skills along the way.

Even better if you have

  • You identify as a developer or design-engineer, even if that started with vibe-coding your own ideas into reality.
  • Already experimenting with AI prototyping tools and adapting your workflow to what’s possible.
  • Have shared your thinking publicly through talks, writing, or projects we can explore online.

Compensation

  • Base salary range: up to $209,000.
  • This range doesn’t include bonuses, stock options, and benefits you will be eligible for.
  • Final offer may vary based on skills, experience, location, and other compensation components.
