Senior Planner - Civil Engineering

LaBella Associates has a unique opportunity in the Charlotte/SE region. We are seeking a Senior Planner/Planning Manager who will work alongside our Civil Engineering, Architecture and Transportation Divisions to lead and grow our planning practice in the southeast. The successful candidate will have experience in leading (or significant involvement with) larger, more complex planning assignments. This includes staffing, scheduling and technical responsibilities along with client coordination.

We are seeking a Team Leader who will collaborate in cultivating business through growing client relationships, working with communities and agencies in developing projects and developing proposals. Projects are diverse and may focus on community planning, urban design, transportation planning, or multi-modal planning.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with an eagerness to excel. Some of the roles/duties may include:

  • Project Manager role - staffing, scope schedule, and budget.
  • Advanced professional work related to variety of planning assignments including community plans, transportation plans/corridor studies and related analyses on local and regional basis.
  • Client manager for multi-discipline and planning studies.
  • Schedules and conducts meetings with advisory boards, the public, and elected officials.
  • Represent the organization in communications and conferences.

Requirements

  • BS Planning, Urban design or related field. Masters Preferred.
  • Eight plus years’ experience in planning, design with 2 plus years of consulting experience.
  • 5+ years of project management experience, including successfully managing larger, complex planning, urban design or transportation projects; overseeing work by staff teams, consultants and subconsultants; maintaining high levels of client satisfaction on challenging projects; and managing schedules and budgets.
  • Experience delivering comprehensive plans, corridor studies, regional trails, or other types of multimodal transportation projects.
  • Experience with Federal or State-funded projects.
  • Experience or interest in supervising a team including involvement in hiring, personnel matters, performance reviews, and staff mentorship.
  • The drive to identify and pursue business development opportunities for a growing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AICP Certification is preferred.
  • Active member of a professional practice organization.

Competencies/soft skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of planning.
  • Well-developed knowledge of one or more planning disciplines, such as land use planning/zoning, urban design, or transportation planning.
  • Broad understanding of the principles and practices of planning, public outreach, and community revitalization.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Salary Range: $95,000 - $125,000

The specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.
