The Opportunity
Adept Group is seeking a Senior Packaging Engineer (1099 Contractor) in Napoleon, Ohio! This candidate will provide onsite packaging engineering support for glass jar soup internalization and retort startup. They will also support CQV activities, closure vendor evaluations, inspections, and early production trials to ensure packaging performance and risk mitigation during startup. The ideal candidate would be a senior-level Packaging Engineer who can independently run and control the work onsite. They would also possess hands-on experience with glass jars and metal closures, as well as retort processing (food preferred).
This is a 1099 Contractor (Independent Contractor) opportunity for 40-hours per week for 4-6 weeks.
In addition to local candidates, we are also open to candidates drivable to Napoleon, Ohio.
Typical Day to Day:
Be on the production floor during startup, trials, and CQV activities (may include 10+ hour shifts to support start-up)
Support evaluation of multiple metal closure vendors
Observe and assess capper performance, closure application, and seal integrity
Support inspection activities including:
Pull-ups
Seal security
Vacuum inspection
Headspace checks
Help interpret early data and flag packaging-related risks
Collaborate closely with Packaging R&D, Process Engineering, and suppliers
Long days possible; multiple shifts during trials and retort runs
Requirements:
- 5+ years of packaging engineering experience, possess the ability to independently run and control the work onsite
- Glass jar & metal closure experience
- Retort processing experience (food preferred)
- Hands-on experience with:
- Capper checks
- Lug closures
- Seal integrity / vacuum inspection
- Ability to work independently on-site with minimal ramp-up
- Comfortable in fast-paced startup/commissioning environments
- Willingness to work extended hours during trials
Nice-to-Haves:
- Soup or liquid food experience
- Experience supporting CQV / startup transitions from pilot to full-scale production
- Statistical or data analysis skills (ability to compile and interpret inspection data)
- Prior experience in large CPG manufacturing environments
