Teach For All is incubating a new organization, Rising Generation, focused on a critical question: How can we catalyze a norm shift in the first job choices of university graduates, so that many of the most promising leaders assume professional responsibility in proximity to our world's most pressing social challenges?
Even as global challenges such as inequality, polarization, and climate change grow more urgent, and many young people express a desire to make a difference, relatively few university graduates begin their careers in roles that place them in close proximity to communities experiencing inequities and injustices. First job choices often shape the leaders people become, deeply influencing their perspectives and priorities, their understanding of the issues and their solutions, and the assets in the most marginalized communities.
Rising Generation aims to help create the conditions that inspire and enable more graduates to make intentional, values-based first job choices that bring them closer to societal challenges and equip them with the perspectives and experiences needed for long-term impact. While this work is deeply aligned with Teach For All’s mission, it is designed to benefit a much broader ecosystem of institutions, organizations, and leaders, focused on the United States at first with the intention to expand globally over time.
During its initial building phase in the United States, Rising Generation will focus on three interconnected strategic areas:
University Community & Learning
Elevating this issue among university leaders, faculty, and administrators, and supporting student leadership and organizing efforts that encourage a norm shift toward first jobs in proximity with the roots of the issues students care about.
Public Purpose Pathways
Expanding and strengthening early-career pathways that place graduates in meaningful roles addressing public and social challenges, through partnerships across sectors and support for social entrepreneurs launching and scaling proximity-oriented programs.
Data, Research & Strategy
Developing a research foundation on first job choices, including how choices vary across institutions and student populations, and using research, media, and storytelling to inform strategy, shape public conversation, and track progress toward impact.
Rising Generation is being built by a small, entrepreneurial founding team working in close collaboration with Teach For All staff and partners, actively shaped by Teach for All CEO Wendy Kopp. Team members hold ownership over specific strategy areas while also sharing responsibility for building the initiative’s foundations, relationships, and learning over time.
Rising Generation is seeking a Senior Operations Associate to support the day-to-day functioning and operations of a small, entrepreneurial founding team. This role will play a critical enabling function - helping the team work effectively across priorities, systems, and relationships, while building the operational backbone that allows the initiative to learn, adapt, and grow.
The Senior Operations Associate will work closely with each of Rising Generation’s three core strategy areas identified above and will collaborate extensively across Teach For All’s internal systems, teams, and platforms. This role is ideal for a strong executor and relationship-builder who is excited to help translate ambitious ideas into action.
The Senior Operations Associate will report to the Head of University Community & Learning, who will serve as the technical line manager for the role.
