This role supports cloud and network operations by managing day-to-day network functions, and ensuring reliable service delivery. Responsibilities include operational monitoring, incident and change management, software upgrades, and maintaining documentation. The position also involves handling ITSM tickets and providing guidance and mentoring to junior engineers to strengthen team capability.

Our offices are based in Auckland. We like to bring people together in person when we can, but we are mindful of the benefits of working from home for work/ life balance. We therefore leave it to you and the team you join to figure out what works best!

Note that it is a full-time position with rostered on-call and only open to those that have current NZ working rights.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Network Engineer in Auckland, you role will be to:

  • Drive an automation-first culture to improve cloud service delivery and customer experience.
  • Enhance and automate Datacom’s managed public cloud services using agile/DevOps methods.
  • Develop and execute automation roadmaps across the ANZ region for reliable cloud operations.
  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot Datacom’s network environments, lead incident resolution.
  • Analyse network performance and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain technical documentation and complete detailed change and ITSM records.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers, carriers, and vendors for network operations and incident management.
  • Provide training and guidelines for network equipment and systems use.
  • Assist with work estimates alongside staff with financial authority.

 

What You’ll Bring

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be an enthusiastic team player who understands what needs to be done to turn business requests into solutions. You won’t be afraid to roll up your sleeves and be involved in the sorting of the problem not just the design. We need people who can talk about business – be it small, medium of large – it’s all relevant and can build networks across our greater Datacom team so that you have a wealth of knowledge available for your local customer.

To join our team, you’ll ideally have:

  • 10+ years of IT experience preferably with Development background. Minimum 5 years’ experience with AWS, DevOps, CI/CD and containerisation.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, and Programming – Node JS, Python qualifications.
  • Key vendor product knowledge e.g., AWS, Azure/Azure Stack, GCP etc. Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for anticipating, recognising, managing, and resolving automation problems.
  • Working knowledge or certification in ITIL Methodologies. Knowledge of industry wide cloud platform technology strategies and best practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of Networking and Firewalling covering Datacentres, Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs).
  • Strong working knowledge of Network and Security management environments, including the associated reporting functions.
  • Operational / Management knowledge of network and security management systems.
  • Proficient with modern DevOps Tools and utilities.
  • Excellent troubleshooting / problem solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and assure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.
  • Excellent customer relationship building and management skills.
  • Ability to manage workload and assigned tasks. This includes working across multiple tasks in a single day.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and align them with client business goals and objectives.
