Who you are: 

  • Hands on engineer with a passion for designing elegant structures and mechanisms
  • Thrive in an environment that enables extreme ownership of all aspects of your hardware design, build, test, & operation
  • You have direct experience with design, analysis, build, and test of spacecraft, automotive, or aircraft hardware with strict performance criteria and manufacturing constraints
  • You’re a CAD guru and enjoy building flexible and organized designs
  • You take a first principles approach to hardware development and have the personality to constantly question assumptions and requirements as you strive to simplify design

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics or related field
  • 4+ years of experience designing, analyzing and building mechanical systems
  • Work on-site in Santa Monica, CA

Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for all aspects of the design, analysis, construction/procurement, and verification of large spacecraft structural systems
  • Write structural margins using hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA). Present the results in an organized and digestible format
  • Create manufacturing and assembly plans for large scale spacecraft
  • Design and conduct structural development, acceptance, & qualification tests
  • Integrate mechanical systems with electrical systems

Additional Skills or Expertise:

  • Experience with Solidworks, Solidworks PDM, configuration management, & GD&T
  • NASTRAN/Femap
  • Thermal protection systems
  • Textiles
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical devices, gear trains, actuators, motors, valves, regulators, or other fluid and position control devices
  • Experience in system level thermal analysis (Thermal Desktop or similar)
