Weekly Schedule: Full Time, 9/80 Schedule

Week One: Monday – Friday 6:00am-2:00pm (overtime as required)

Week Two: Monday - Thursday 6:00am-4:00pm (overtime as required)

The Senior Manufacturing Technician provides leadership and advanced technical support within the manufacturing environment, including mentoring junior technicians and supporting assemblers. This role demonstrates deep expertise in the build-to-print fabrication and assembly of mission-critical aerospace and defense products.The senior technician converts customer technical data packages (TDPs) into precise, production-ready documentation for RF, fiber optic, and complex electrical assemblies. This individual takes a lead role in resolving manufacturability issues, launching new builds, and driving process improvements across teams.

Working closely with engineering, quality, and production teams, the senior technician ensures smooth design transitions, addresses manufacturability concerns, supports new build releases, and drives continuous improvement to maintain Qualastat’s standards for precision, consistency, and compliance.Success in this role requires hands-on technical strength, a proactive mindset, strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to guide others in a high-urgency, high-reliability environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate’s degree or 5 years of related experience (preferred, not required)

Experience:

  • 5 years of related experience within a military or aerospace manufacturing environment (preferred, not required). Build-to-print manufacturing experience preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Complex wire harness assembly and interconnect integration
  • SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar 3D/CAD tools
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 and J-STD-001 (certification preferred)
  • Military and aerospace product standards and compliance requirements
  • Schematic interpretation, wire sizing, connector selection, overmolding, and potting techniques
  • Root cause analysis and RCCA methodologies

Skills:

  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Proficiency with hand tools (wire cutters, strippers, crimpers, etc.)
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings
  • Comfort with change orders, revision control, and configuration management systems
  • Advanced soldering and hand assembly (including fine-pitch components)
  • Ability to mentor, train, and lead less experienced technicians
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with ERP/MES systems and change management workflows

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and revise manufacturing travelers, visual work instructions, and process documentation from customer-provided TDPs
  • Engage in internal training efforts to improve technicians and assemblers’ understanding of documentation and build expectations
  • Create or procure assembly aids as needed for production
  • Lead coordination between Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to resolve manufacturability and design issues
  • Develop and revise detailed manufacturing travelers, work instructions, and build documentation based on customer TDPs
  • Set up and oversee the use of test equipment, fixtures, tooling, and visual aids, and provide training to others.
  • Provide on-the-floor support and troubleshooting during first article, prototype, and legacy builds
  • Mentor and train technicians and assemblers to ensure clear understanding of documentation and build expectations
  • Lead or support RCCA activities related to internal quality issues or customer returns (RMAs), and report findings to the Engineering Manager
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives through process audits and collaboration
  • Interface with vendors or customers, as needed, to resolve documentation or build-related issues
  • Participate in ad-hoc engineering and production-related projects

Other responsibilities, initiatives and ad-hoc projects as required. 

Internal and External Relationships

  • Frequent interaction with Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain. interact with customers or vendors for documentation clarification or first-article resolution as directed by Engineering Manager
  • Must be a U.S. person or able to comply with ITAR regulations, as required for work on defense-related program
