🧡📦💙Founded in 2012, EasyPost is a YC unicorn whose mission is to make shipping simple for businesses—from garage startups to the Fortune 500. Shipping, now more than ever, is the backbone of the global economy, but integrating the technology-enabled operations of a modern business with the low-tech and complex shipping industry has always been a challenge. EasyPost solves this problem with the first developer-friendly REST API for shipping, and we continue to push boundaries and discover new ways to simplify shipping for all. Our team is rapidly growing, and this is the perfect time to get on board. Join us and help build the shipping infrastructure of the future. We’re builders, problem-solvers, and “there has to be a better way” people. We like elegant architecture, fast decisions, and shipping (pun intended) improvements that power millions of deliveries every day. We stay scrappy, we move fast, and we don’t wait for permission to innovate in an industry that desperately needs it. If you want to work on systems that actually move the world—literally—you’re in the right place. 🚚✨
Position Summary:
EasyPost is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Platform Engineering Team on the infrastructure side of the company. This is a high-impact role focused on designing and building the shared platforms and internal tooling that make development at EasyPost faster, safer, and more reliable.
As an Engineering Manager for Platform Engineering, you'll shape the systems, workflows, and standards that empower our product engineers. This includes everything from defining Golden Paths and developing Service Scaffolding to managing Shared DB Platforms, ensuring system reliability, and establishing compliance guardrails. You will work across the stack and organization, identifying friction points and turning them into opportunities to improve how we build, ship, and operate software. Your work will directly influence engineering velocity, system reliability, and operational excellence.
This is an ideal role for someone who thrives on enablement, automation, and metrics — someone who wants to empower others by building the platforms behind the platform.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
o Lead and manage the Platform Engineering team, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to engineers across various levels.
o Design, build, and evangelize Golden Paths and Service Scaffolding to reduce friction across the development lifecycle.
o Identify high-friction or high-risk engineering workflows and design scalable, user-friendly platforms and tooling to improve them.
o Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of Shared DB Platforms, ensuring optimal performance, integrity, and security across the organization.
o Lead efforts to design, manage, and optimize multi-cloud platforms using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools, driving cost-efficiency and security.
o Oversee the development, integration, and adoption of Observability Frameworks (metrics, tracing, logs).
o Lead the development and implementation of robust Reliability Practices for the platform, including backup, recovery, capacity planning, and disaster recovery strategies.
o Define and track meaningful metrics to evaluate developer experience, platform health, and team productivity — using data to inform what you build and how it evolves.
o Collaborate with development, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure resilient, secure, and scalable services, and provide consulting on platform patterns like API Gateways and Service Meshes.
o Contribute to the standardization and documentation of engineering practices across teams.
Minimum Education & Experience Qualifications:
o Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
o 12+ years of related experience in software or platform engineering, with a focus on internal tools, automation, or developer productivity.
o Experience building and scaling developer platforms or internal tooling in fast-moving engineering environments.
o Strong understanding of modern development practices — including Git-based workflows, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment automation.
o Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and config management (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), in cloud environments such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
o Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
o Familiarity with the GitHub toolchain, including GitHub Actions, pull request workflows, and GitHub-integrated CI/CD.
o Experience integrating deployment tooling with systems like FluxCD or other GitOps-based platforms.
o Proficiency in programming languages such as Ruby, Python, Go, or Rust, as well as comfort with scripting and automation tasks.
o Familiarity with a variety of database technologies (e.g., MySQL, Cassandra, Redis) and cloud-based database platforms (e.g., RDS, Aurora, Keyspaces, CloudSQL, BigTable).
o Familiarity with observability stacks (e.g., ELK,Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Vector, Tempo, Datadog, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor).
o Demonstrated ability to use metrics and feedback loops to drive continuous improvement in platform development.
o Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity, empathy, and documentation.
