The role is primarily responsible for leading the Operational Due Diligence (ODD) function at Rest. This includes identifying operational risks across Rest’s investment related service providers, managing relationships and appropriately promoting best practice approaches to mitigate and manage operational risks inherent in investment operational frameworks to minimise member losses due to operational errors

  • Provide strategic leadership for the ODD function, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards (CPS 230) and industry best practice.
  • Manage and develop a small ODD team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
  • Oversee the relationship across a panel of external ODD service providers, ensuring scope, quality, and timeliness of reviews.
  • Lead and approve ODD reviews across asset classes including equities, fixed income, portfolio implementation, and direct assets (property and infrastructure).
  • Review and endorse internal ODD summaries, aligning external service provider risk ratings to Rest’s ODD framework methodology, ensuring accuracy and actionable insights.
  • Present findings and recommendations to investment committees, sub-committees, and governance forums.
  • Assess critical operational risk areas such as governance, compliance, valuation, cybersecurity, and business continuity.
  • Implement a new risk-based Rest’s ODD framework that aligns to Rest’s Risk Framework and appetite statement.
  • Ensure operational due diligence processes and procedures are current and aligned with the ODD Framework, while proactively identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with internal and external managers to address issues identified in ODD reviews.
  • Monitor emerging operational risks, incidents, and compliance breaches, ensuring these are reflected in manager risk ratings.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in internal systems - Dasseti.
  • Tertiary qualification in finance, economics, business, actuarial studies or equivalent
  • Key designations (e.g., MBA, CFA, CAIA, FRM) are highly desirable.

Required experience, understanding or credentials including:

  • Demonstrated operational due diligence experience within a superannuation fund or ODD provider; operational risk experience within an asset manager will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in leading and developing a small team, fostering collaboration and high performance.
  • Strong commercial approach to operational risk and compliance, with the ability to engage effectively with senior decision-makers and investment managers.
  • Proven ability to provide expert risk and compliance advice while managing multiple and complex stakeholders.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and prioritising competing deadlines.
