We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager – Market Research to lead research at Carfax. This strategic role is responsible for overseeing all consumer research initiatives and directly managing and executing high-impact B2B research projects. The ideal candidate is a seasoned research leader with deep expertise in quantitative methodologies, survey design, and data analysis, complemented by a working understanding of User Experience (UX) research principles. You will help to drive the Carfax experience with consumers, dealers, and service shops and be pivotal in translating complex data into actionable insights that drive product innovation, marketing strategy, and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Research Strategy & Leadership
- Define and champion the overall research strategy for the organization, ensuring alignment with key business objectives across all customer segments (B2C and B2B).
- Oversee and guide the research team, ensuring high-quality execution of segmentation studies, brand tracking, concept testing, and market opportunity assessments.
- Directly design, manage, and execute end-to-end B2B research projects, including identifying industry trends, understanding the dealer and service shop journey, product and messaging evolution, and customer needs analysis among our dealer and service shop audiences.
- Partner closely with Marketing, Product Management, and Sales Leadership to identify critical knowledge gaps and deliver insights that inform strategic decisions and investment prioritization.
Methodology & Execution Excellence
- Serve as the subject matter expert in quantitative research methodologies, including advanced statistics, experimental design, sampling, and data weighting.
- Oversee the development and fielding of methodologically solid and unbiased surveys across various platforms and panel sources for both B2C and B2B audiences.
- Collaborate with the UX/Design and Digital Analytic teams to ensure the integration of customer behavioral data and qualitative UX findings (e.g., usability studies, in-depth interviews, Adobe analytics, ContentSqure) into research to broaden strategy.
- Manage and evaluate external research platforms and partners, ensuring efficient project execution and budget management.
Analysis & Insight Delivery
- Analyze complex quantitative and qualitative data sets, identifying patterns, uncovering key insights, and translating them into clear, compelling narratives.
- Prepare and present executive-level reports and presentations that clearly articulate research findings, strategic implications, and actionable business recommendations.
- Develop processes and platforms to disseminate research findings effectively across the organization
Qualifications Required
- 10+ years of progressive experience in market research, consumer insights, or strategy, with at least 5+ years in a leadership or managerial role on the client side.
- Deep expertise in end-to-end design, execution, and analysis of large-scale quantitative studies (e.g., trackers, segmentation, conjoint analysis).
- Direct, hands-on experience designing and executing B2B research
- Proficiency with statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS) and advanced data analysis techniques.
- Proven ability to manage, mentor, and guide a team of consumer insight specialists.
- Experience with UX Research methodologies (e.g., usability testing, A/B testing, user interviews, journey mapping) or a strong history of collaboration with dedicated UX teams.
- Proficiency with research platforms/tools (e.g., Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, UserTesting, etc.).
- BS or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Psychology, Sociology, Marketing, Statistics, or Economics.
- Experience in automotive a plus.
