Role Overview

As a Senior Engineering Manager at HG Insights, you manage significant complexity with skill to deliver multiple major workstreams simultaneously in service of the overall business. You lead multiple teams and/or managers, drive large cross-functional initiatives from conception through delivery, and ensure that engineering execution aligns tightly with HG Insights' strategy and outcomes.

You balance technical depth, people leadership, and business acumen—creating clarity in ambiguous environments, making high-quality decisions at speed, and building the structures and processes that allow teams to deliver reliably at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Execution

  • Own the end-to-end delivery of multiple major engineering workstreams that are critical to HG Insights' business.
  • Translate company and product strategy into clear technical direction, roadmaps, and execution plans for your organization.
  • Anticipate and manage dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs across teams, systems, and stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain operating mechanisms (cadence, metrics, reviews) that ensure predictable, high-quality delivery.

Technical Stewardship

  • Provide technical leadership at the system and organizational level, ensuring your teams make sound architectural and design decisions.
  • Challenge and refine proposals to balance long-term platform health, product velocity, and customer impact.
  • Champion engineering excellence—reliability, scalability, performance, security, and data quality—across your domains.
  • Partner closely with Staff and Principal Engineers to define and evolve technical strategy and standards for HG Insights' platforms and products.

People Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop engineering managers and senior ICs; build a strong leadership bench within your organization.
  • Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and build growth plans that align individual aspirations with business needs.
  • Build an inclusive, psychologically safe environment where distributed teams can perform at a high level and do their best work.
  • Address performance issues quickly and fairly; recognize and amplify high performance and high potential.

Organizational Design & Scale

  • Design and evolve team structures, scopes, and interfaces to optimize for ownership, clarity, and delivery.
  • Ensure the right leaders and ICs are in the right roles, with clear responsibilities and success metrics.
  • Build and refine processes (planning, execution, incident management, quality) that scale across multiple teams and workstreams.
  • Plan headcount and skills mix (e.g., backend, data, platform, analytics/ML) to meet current and future needs of the business.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with Product, Data, Design, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and RevOps to define, prioritize, and deliver on business outcomes.
  • Influence and align stakeholders across the organization, creating shared understanding and commitment on complex initiatives.
  • Represent engineering tradeoffs clearly and credibly with executives and non-technical partners.
  • Act as a key decision-maker in portfolio and prioritization discussions across your area.

Business Impact & Outcomes

  • Connect engineering work directly to HG Insights' strategic objectives, customer value, and company-level metrics.
  • Define and track KPIs and success measures for your workstreams; course-correct based on data and outcomes.
  • Identify new opportunities where engineering can unlock growth, efficiency, or differentiation for HG Insights and its customers.
  • Contribute to broader org-level strategy discussions beyond your immediate remit.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • 10+ years in software engineering, including 3+ in engineering management roles.
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple teams and/or managers delivering complex, multi-quarter initiatives.
  • Strong technical background with the ability to engage deeply on architecture, design, and tradeoffs (e.g., data platforms, distributed systems, or analytics-heavy products).
  • Proven track record of building and scaling teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Experience operating in environments with high ambiguity and complexity, driving clarity and results.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including with senior leadership.

Preferred:

  • Experience in large enterprise companies, owning engineering for a product line and consistently delivering for customers.
  • Prior ownership of mission-critical, data-intensive systems or platforms.
  • Experience leading cross-functional programs that span multiple orgs or business units.
  • Familiarity with the types of users and buyers we serve (e.g., Marketing Ops, Sales Ops, RevOps, Demand Gen, GTM leaders).
