Senior Machine Learning Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join the Creative Intelligence Team at Smartly! Our team works on helping marketers make the most of their ad creatives (images, video, text). We build solutions that help marketers with creative learning, AI-driven creative production assistance, and creative optimization. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of and lead high impact projects.

We are technology agnostic and always aim to choose the best tools for the job. We favor Python, Postgres, and AWS-based solutions. We use a combination of serverless and Kubernetes-based (EKS) infrastructure.

Our team members are based out of the United States, with most people working out of the San Francisco Bay Area. We are hiring for this position in Berlin or Helsinki to be closer to the rest of Smartly.io's product development org. The Media Intelligence team, our sibling team under the Advertising Intelligence banner, is also based out of Helsinki/Berlin. Our team works with teams in these locations often, and we've been able to effectively collaborate, despite the time zone difference.

As a Machine Learning Engineer, you'll...

  • Design and build end-to-end ML-based solutions related to creative intelligence. This primarily involves working with image, video, text, and ad performance data to generate insights, recommendations, and improved creatives.
  • Strengthen Smartly's MLOps foundation and enable us to ship ML-based products more effectively and efficiently.
  • Work with large scale and proprietary advertising data.
  • Be a core contributor of our Creative Intelligence Team and our ways of working to build high impact products. You'll actively be involved in work planning, retrospectives, and overall team improvement.
  • Work with our stakeholders - be them product, engineering, infrastructure - to ensure we meet customers where they are. As with most ML-related roles, being able to translate business/product needs to viable solutions is a must.
  • Apply and enhance your soft skills through working closely with your colleagues and our customers. Hopping on customer calls, doing knowledge shares, mentoring junior engineers, running productive meetings, and pair programming/debugging are just some ways we grow our soft skills.
  • Keep up to date with the latest ML innovations in academia, especially in areas such as computer vision, natural language processing, generative AI, and explainability.

What we are looking for...

  • Experience building production-quality ML models (including computer vision) for industry applications.
  • Experience designing and building MLOps workflows.
  • Passion for solving customers problems at a fast pace
  • Passion to drive best possible technical architecture choices, and be fearless when facing unknown new challenges.
  • Work with a globally distributed team effectively.

  3. Technical interviews: You'll take part in ML Concepts & Coding Exercise followed by a discussion around MLOps focused Systems Design & Architecture Concepts
  4. Final meeting: You'll meet the Director of Data Science who oversees the Advertising Intelligence teams
