Senior Legal Counsel 12 month FTC

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Legal team here at The Telegraph to support in a fast paced and exciting environment. You'll own and support across a broad range of corporate matters; commercial contracts as well as providing advice and counsel on a variety of business, legal and regulatory matters. This role will suit a qualified lawyer with solid corporate/ commercial law experience and ideally expertise within the media industry. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the business and work with an enthusiastic team, and you'll play an integral part in developing TMGs business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support on corporate and governance matters and handle a variety of commercial contracts and advice in a dynamic, successful media company
  • Provide expert legal advice and strategic business partnering to the various TMG commercial and operational teams 
  • Ability to grasp, understand, and effectively articulate and document complex legal and contractual principles.
  • Develop strong business partner relationships with key leaders across the TMG business, including the executive team, to enable a meaningful contribution of legal services in an effective, efficient and compliant way
  • Play a proactive role in the Group Legal Team, taking on responsibility for supporting change programmes and projects to drive improvements and operational excellence

Essential Skills

  • Legally qualified with significant experience gained either in-house or at a top law firm
  • Strong drafting skills and experience conducting transactions including diligence and disclosure processes with strong project management capabilities
  • Ability to provide practical legal advice and support with a high degree of professionalism in a fast-paced environment and to establish a high degree of credibility, respect and trust at all levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills. Proven ability to give specialist advice to commercial colleagues in order to drive decisions and resolve complex and strategically important issues
  • In-house experience preferably. Experience working in areas such as tech, media and IP would be advantageous.
  • Strong commercial awareness, flexibility, and willingness to provide considered, practical advice
