Let’s start with the role:

The Senior Legal Counsel will support HR in all employment-related matters and oversee all aspects of labor litigation and dispute resolution. The role involves managing and advising on legal proceedings, ensuring compliance with employment requirements, mitigating risks, and working closely with HR and external counsel to safeguard the organization's interests. The ideal candidate for this position is a strategic thinker with excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.Additionally, the Senior Legal Counsel must be prepared to support Union negotiations when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Consulting Expertise

  • Support HR in all employment-related matters, developing policies and procedures to ensure governance on HR related matters.

Litigation Management

  • Oversee and manage all labor litigation involving the organization.
  • Develop strategies for effectively handling lawsuits and other legal disputes.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external legal counsel in labor litigation matters.
  • Monitor the progress of cases, ensuring timely updates and adherence to deadlines.

Legal Advisory and Risk Management

  • Support HR in ensuring governance and documenting procedures to protect the company.
  • Advise senior management and stakeholders on potential litigation risks and strategies to mitigate them.
  • Analyze labor claims and provide clear recommendations for resolution or escalation.
  • Review and draft legal documents when necessary.

Internal Coordination and Compliance

  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., HR, finance, operations) to gather evidence and information related to claims.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in all jurisdictions where the company operates.
  • Conduct regular reviews of internal processes to minimize potential legal risks.

Case Reporting and Analysis

  • Maintain comprehensive records of all litigation and dispute cases.
  • Prepare detailed reports for leadership, including case outcomes, legal expenses, and emerging trends.

Training and Development

  • Educate internal teams on legal procedures, litigation risks, and best practices.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions to enhance legal awareness within the organization.

You will act as a business partner to the HR team, compiling case data, providing training, and proposing solutions to prevent similar issues in the future. Additionally, you will monitor and collaborate with external counsel, guiding them through the best approach based on the information gathered.

What you will bring:

  • Law degree with an active OAB (Brazilian Bar Association) registration.
  • Post Graduate or higher in Labor Law.
  • 5+ years of PQE (post qualification experience) with relevant experience in labor litigation.
  • Highly analytical, hands-on professional who can work independently and creatively to provide effective solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform under pressure.
  • A positive team player with excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Fluent in English – this is a mandatory requirement.
  • Tech Fluency – relevant to help design the process to optimize the litigation management.
