The position
With our business rapidly growing, we are looking for an additional in-house Senior Legal Counsel to join our internal team. This role will primarily focus on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, with a particular emphasis on flexibility services and optimisation agreements. Additionally, the Senior Legal Counsel will provide comprehensive legal advice and support across a broad range of legal matters pertinent to Sympower's international operations and services in various European countries. The successful candidate will be part of a three-person legal team and will report directly to the General Counsel.

What you will do
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various (commercial) contracts, with a particular focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) optimisation contracts, tolling agreements, direct agreements with lenders, power supply contracts, ensuring all contractual obligations align with company policies and legal standards. The ideal candidate will bring their expertise and advice on how to structure these deals and create contract templates.
Proactively identifying legal and commercial risks across the organization's activities; developing and implementing contractual strategies and specific clauses to mitigate these risks
Working on corporate matters, including drafting board resolutions and power of attorneys
Providing legal input and assisting in the structuring of M&A and fundraising transactions
Participating in projects aimed at further improving processes and efficiency of the legal function
Promoting legal, compliance and risk management best practice throughout the company
Communicating with business partners, law firms, and service providers from a variety of jurisdictions.
General administrative tasks for the legal team as required
Bachelor degree in law
Qualified to practice as a lawyer in your country of jurisdiction
5 to 10 years’ working experience, preferably in a law firm or in-house legal department within the energy, infrastructure, or project finance sectors
Deep understanding of project finance principles and the European energy sector, in particular the role of balancing services and wholesale markets
Expertise in drafting and negotiating optimisation contracts, tolling agreements, and direct agreements with lenders; experience in the BESS sector also desirable
Strong drafting, organisation, and time-management skills
Initiative and willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters
Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships across the business
Ability to communicate complex legal issues and risks in terms that non-legal colleagues can understand
Ideally based in our headquarters in Amsterdam
Fluent in English; other European languages are nice to have
