POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior EIC Designer – Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Focus is responsible for developing and managing all aspects of instrumentation and control systems design for Oil & Gas and energy-related EPCM projects. This role requires 10+ years of experience with a strong emphasis on field instrumentation, control panel design, loop diagrams, and system integration. A proven track record leading design scope for I&C projects is essential.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

May include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and execute instrumentation and control design scope on multiple concurrent EPCM projects
  • Develop P&ID markups for instrumentation, instrument index, I/O lists, and control narratives
  • Prepare and review loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, junction box layouts, cable schedules, and termination drawings
  • Coordinate with electrical and process engineers to align instrumentation design with project requirements
  • Integrate vendor-supplied instrumentation and control systems into project deliverables
  • Prepare detailed instrument specifications and datasheets for procurement
  • Ensure compliance with CSA, ISA, API, and other relevant standards and client specifications
  • Support construction and commissioning teams with field support, redlines, and as-built drawings
  • Perform quality checks to ensure design integrity and adherence to internal standards
  • Participate in HAZOPs and design reviews, resolving technical issues during the design phase

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution
  • 10+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls design within Oil & Gas or industrial sectors
  • Strong working knowledge of control systems, instrumentation devices, and loop design fundamentals
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with SPI (INtools) is a strong asset
  • Experience working as a Lead I&C Designer on EPCM projects is preferred
  • Understanding of industry standards including ISA, CSA, API, and IEC

SKILLS

  • Advanced knowledge of control systems architecture and instrumentation layout
  • Ability to manage and coordinate drawing packages, document control, and revisions
  • Familiarity with electrical and I&C interface points, including control cabinets, PLC/DCS panels, and marshalling cabinets
  • Effective communicator, able to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including process, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities and project deadlines in a dynamic environment
