POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior EIC Designer – Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Focus is responsible for developing and managing all aspects of instrumentation and control systems design for Oil & Gas and energy-related EPCM projects. This role requires 10+ years of experience with a strong emphasis on field instrumentation, control panel design, loop diagrams, and system integration. A proven track record leading design scope for I&C projects is essential.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
May include but are not limited to:
- Lead and execute instrumentation and control design scope on multiple concurrent EPCM projects
- Develop P&ID markups for instrumentation, instrument index, I/O lists, and control narratives
- Prepare and review loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, junction box layouts, cable schedules, and termination drawings
- Coordinate with electrical and process engineers to align instrumentation design with project requirements
- Integrate vendor-supplied instrumentation and control systems into project deliverables
- Prepare detailed instrument specifications and datasheets for procurement
- Ensure compliance with CSA, ISA, API, and other relevant standards and client specifications
- Support construction and commissioning teams with field support, redlines, and as-built drawings
- Perform quality checks to ensure design integrity and adherence to internal standards
- Participate in HAZOPs and design reviews, resolving technical issues during the design phase
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution
- 10+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls design within Oil & Gas or industrial sectors
- Strong working knowledge of control systems, instrumentation devices, and loop design fundamentals
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with SPI (INtools) is a strong asset
- Experience working as a Lead I&C Designer on EPCM projects is preferred
- Understanding of industry standards including ISA, CSA, API, and IEC
SKILLS
- Advanced knowledge of control systems architecture and instrumentation layout
- Ability to manage and coordinate drawing packages, document control, and revisions
- Familiarity with electrical and I&C interface points, including control cabinets, PLC/DCS panels, and marshalling cabinets
- Effective communicator, able to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including process, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Capable of balancing multiple priorities and project deadlines in a dynamic environment
