Senior Graphics Architect

Geomagical Labs, in partnership with IKEA, is at the forefront of 3D spatial design experiences that are reshaping the landscape of home e-commerce. Our innovative interior design apps empower users to bring the vision of their living spaces to life through a designable, digital reconstruction from smart phone scans. We're in search of a Senior Graphics Architect to lead the evolution of our 3D graphics engine that powers our web-based design tool. This role presents a unique opportunity to be the lead architect of a novel 3D design application, break boundaries in browser-based immersive realism, and influence the digital interior design space across the globe. Additionally, you'll have the chance to develop a team of graphics engineers dedicated to crafting influential visual apps.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and design of our graphics engine, optimizing for efficiency and flexibility across a diverse range of hardware.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define feature requirements of our graphics engine.
  • Communicate complex concepts through detailed technical design and architecture documents.
  • Build and lead a team of graphics engineers passionate about 3d graphics.
  • Mentor engineers, conduct impactful code reviews, and champion efforts to enhance overall code and product quality.
  • Drive the roadmap of our graphics engine by staying informed of advancements in rendering technologies, graphics programming, and game engine design.
  • Enhance the realism of our mixed-reality experiences through skillful improvements to image-based lighting, shadowing, and physically-based rendering algorithms.
  • Conduct in-depth research and development of real-time, realistic lighting & shading algorithms targeting browser delivery, utilizing frameworks such as ThreeJS, BabylonJS, custom WebGL/WebGPU and/or WASM.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or related field.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years hands-on experience at a senior level in the development of rendering/game engines or similar.
  • A proven track record of architecting complex systems for large-scale, consumer-facing applications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern 3D game/rendering engine architectures.
  • Proficiency in low-level graphics APIs such as WebGL/WebGPU, Vulkan, DX12, Metal, OpenGL.
  • Demonstrated understanding of HDR, image-based lighting, physically based rendering, and other advanced realistic rendering techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and proactive attitude.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.


Nice to have

  • Command of JavaScript/Typescript.
  • Experience with libraries like ThreeJS, BabylonJS, or similar browser-based rendering stacks.

  • The USA base salary for this full-time position ranges from $190,000 to $280,000 determined by location, role, skill, and experience level.
