Senior Frontend Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to design and develop modern web applications with a focus on clean, efficient, and scalable code. You will be working closely with users, product management, and UI/UX teams to create intuitive, high-performing interfaces that make a real impact.

About EarthRanger

EarthRanger is a software solution that helps conservationists make informed operational decisions. We help prevent the poaching of endangered species, fight deforestation, promote human-wildlife coexistence, and advocate for legal protection of wildlife on land or in the oceans. We do this by integrating real-time data from 150+ hardware sensors (animal trackers, radios, vehicles, etc), rangers, patrols, remote imaging, etc and providing visibility and analysis of conservation activities across landscapes and seascapes. More than 850 conservation organizations use EarthRanger today, from iconic national parks like Masai Mara Reserve in Kenya and North Luangwa National Park in Zambia, to species-specific conservation programs like the study of white sharks in New Zealand and Panthera’s Mountain Lion Program in Washington state.

Responsibilities 

• The ability to work with users, product management, and UI/UX teams to help design, develop, and validate products that change the game for wildlife protection 

• Applying discipline to ensure high code quality and standards, including implementing unit tests 

• The ability to work in a changing environment under tight deadlines 

Qualifications 

• 5+ years as a web technologies software engineer 

• Fundamental expertise in HTML, CSS+SCSS, and JavaScript 

• Expertise using web frameworks and platforms, notably React, to write modular, scalable, and performant applications 

• Expertise in automated testing at the unit and integration level 

• Expertise with source code repositories and build systems 

• Knowledge of responsive design best practices and principles 

• Experience with web development tools (yarn, webpack, docker, etc.) 

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, both within teams and externally to partners 

• Experience working in an Agile development environment 

Desired Traits 

• Experience with mapping technologies (Mapbox, OpenLayers, ESRI or Google Maps) 

• Significant experience with server-side technologies 

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or a related technical discipline 

• Excellent coding experience in open source libraries and frameworks 

• Experience delivering solutions on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure
