Senior Financial Accountant (Finance Manager Progression)
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Financial Accountant who is ready to take the next step in their career and transition into a Finance Manager role. Working closely with the Group Financial Controller (GFC), you will take ownership of BAU finance operations, lead key elements of the financial reporting cycle, strengthen internal controls, and oversee junior members of the team.
This is a hands-on, high-visibility role ideal for someone with strong technical foundations and a passion for driving improvements, leading people, and contributing strategically to a growing organisation.
You will gain exposure across the full finance function, providing you with the experience and capability to step confidently into a Finance Manager position within the business.
What you’ll do
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Lead preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Deliver high-quality management reporting, including variance analysis and commentary.
- Support the GFC with statutory reporting, audits, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee BAS, FBT, payroll tax, income tax reporting, and compliance timetables
Finance Operations & Controls
- Manage the daily finance function, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of BAU activities.
- Oversee GL integrity, reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and month-end close.
- Strengthen internal control frameworks, accounting policies, and financial governance.
- Support GFC with cash flow forecasting, treasury oversight, and working capital management.
Systems, Automation & Data
- Lead optimization of Xero and related reporting tools.
- Identify and implement process improvements that drive efficiency and scalability.
- Use SQL or advanced data analytics skills to enhance reporting, dashboards, and insights.
- Support implementation of new finance systems where required.
Commercial & Business Partnering
- Collaborate with operational, product, and strategic partnership and Huddle teams to provide data-driven financial insights.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships to support decision-making and budgeting.
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise, mentor, and review work of junior team members.
- Support the GFC in driving a high-performance team culture.
- Act as a key deputy to the GFC and step in as required.
- Take on increasing leadership responsibilities as part of the Finance Manager succession plan.
Key skills & competencies
Technical Skills/Competencies
- CA with 3-5 years post-qualification experience.
- Strong financial reporting, accounting, and compliance expertise.
- Proven experience in startup/SME environments preferred.Background in fintech and/or
- insurance is highly advantageous.Strong proficiency in Xero and advanced Google Sheets.
- Data capability in SQL is highly desirable.

- communication skills with the ability to engage finance and non-finance stakeholders.Highly

Role location
This role will be based in Sydney hub, with a hybrid working model with 2 days minimum in the office (currently Tuesdays and Thursdays and flexible based on team needs)
