Mama Money is a growth stage fintech startup working to help migrant workers in South Africa send money home. Since 2015 we have been providing reliable remittances, at a socially fair price, to those that need it most.
Mama HQ is in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. We are 131 people strong (and counting) from 19 countries across Africa, Asia, the UK, and Europe. As our Senior Financial Accountant you will:
Assist with closing month end, processing journal entries and reviewing of accounts
Work closely with the Treasury team to align operational and finance needs
Reconciliation of bank accounts/aggregator statements
Management of expense allocations per Business Unit
Ensuring new processes are implemented and adhered to
Assist with payment run approvals
Management/Reconciliation of company loans and capturing of inter-company transactions
Assist with audit requirements
Assist with preparation tax returns, including underlying supporting schedules (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax, STATS SA, SARB)
Ad-hoc finance-related tasks and projects
Qualifications & Experience:
Completed a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (BCom Accounting or BCom Financial Accounting).
Xero experience.
In your first 90 days at Mama Money you will:
Demonstrate a good understanding of our business operations
Be responsible for assisting in the accuracy of month-end preparation
Be responsible for the first level opex review and identify any anomalies and take initiative to correct
Assist to ensure that all tax submissions (monthly/quarterly/bi-annual and annual) are done on time and assist the broader team in ad hoc requirements as they arise
