Imprint is reimagining co-branded credit cards & financial products to be smarter, more rewarding, and truly brand-first. We partner with companies like Crate & Barrel, Rakuten, Booking.com, H-E-B, Fetch, and Brooks Brothers to launch modern credit programs that deepen loyalty, unlock savings, and drive growth. Our platform combines advanced payments infrastructure, intelligent underwriting, and seamless UX to help brands offer powerful financial products—without becoming a bank.
Co-branded cards account for over $300 billion in U.S. annual spend—but most are still powered by legacy banks. Imprint is the modern alternative: flexible, tech-forward, and built for today’s consumer. Backed by Kleiner Perkins, Thrive Capital, and Khosla Ventures, we’re building a world-class team to redefine how people pay—and how brands grow. If you want to work fast, solve hard problems, and make a real impact, we’d love to meet you.
The Spend team sits at the core of Imprint’s financial platform, shaping the transaction experiences that power cardholder engagement and partner growth. We build and operate the services behind our customer experiences and Partner APIs, translating every transaction into an opportunity to drive trust, insight, and increased spend. Our mandate spans rewards, the full transaction lifecycle, merchant intelligence, and fraud-aware controls. In close partnership with Risk, Product, Data, Compliance, and Payments, the team delivers exceptional experiences today while defining the platform that will power Imprint’s next chapter.
We’re seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead Spend into its next era of scale, innovation, and impact. You will define and drive the engineering vision, build and inspire a high-performing team, and deliver meaningful customer engagement experiences alongside robust, scalable partner APIs. Working closely with product and cross-functional leaders, you’ll raise the bar for engineering excellence, influence how we operate at scale, and play a key role in shaping the future of both our customer and partner ecosystems.
Hybrid. This role is based in our New York or San Francisco offices, with 2–3 in‑office days per week as required by your manager. Preference for NY or SF office hubs for closer collaboration with engineering leadership.
Set and execute the technical and organizational strategy for Spend Engineering, balancing latency, feature velocity, and risk controls.
Collaborate across cross-functional partners (Product, Risk, Fraud, Data, Compliance) to define goals, sequencing, and tradeoffs.
Own delivery and operations of mission‑critical authorization and transaction processing services, with aggressive SLOs, comprehensive runbooks, and high‑quality on‑call practices.
Evolve monitoring and alerting around business outcomes like approval rates, decline reasons, latency distribution, and network compliance metrics.
Lead architecture to support real‑time spending controls, merchant enrichment, multi‑product authorization logic, and network integrations as we scale.
Lead and develop a diverse and talented team of engineers across a spectrum of seniority.
10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years managing fullstack teams operating 24x7 services.
Strong systems architecture skills across distributed systems, low‑latency design, idempotency, and exactly‑once processing semantics.
Proven track record improving reliability, latency, and on‑call effectiveness in high‑stakes, real‑time domains.
Clear, direct communication; ability to align cross‑functional stakeholders and lead through ambiguity.
Nice to haves: Experience building and operating card authorization, transaction processing, or payment switching systems at scale, with strong knowledge of ISO 8583, card network rules, and authorization flows, as well as hands-on exposure to Visa/Mastercard network integrations, fraud and risk decisioning systems, spend controls and limits engines, regulated environments, or large-scale platform refactors.
