Senior Engineer, Research; ML Algorithm Development

 

What You’ll Do

AML is part of SSI. Headquartered in San Jose, CA. AML is engaged in materials design and discovery for a broad range of next-generation technologies in batteries and semiconductors. The work is conducted internally with academic collaborators and industrial partners. As a part of Samsung’s advanced research effort, AML works closely with counterparts at Samsung laboratories in Korea.

 

The ideal candidate has expertise in ML algorithm development and should have Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, materials science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a relevant field. The candidate should have a strong background in mathematics and expertise in developing and utilizing ML algorithms for physics/engineering problems. Experience using atomistic modeling and simulations in materials research will be additionally considered but not core requirements.

 

Location: Onsite at our Cambridge, MA ( Hybrid  , Three days a week)

  • Develop machine learning algorithms to solve mathematics and science questions.
  • Develop automated and autonomous data pipelines workflows for the discovery of novel materials
  • Collaborate with other computational and experimental researchers in an interdisciplinary group
  • Contribute to Samsung AML’s mission of next-generation materials development
  • Disseminate findings in top-tier publications and conferences
  • Collaborate closely with our research partners in academia and headquarter in South Korea

 

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s with 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or Master’s with 3+ years or Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a relevant field
  • Expertise in ML algorithms developments
  • Applied mathematics background (numerical solver development experience as a plus)
  • Expertise with materials data generation, management, and analysis
  • Experience in programming languages (both compiling and scripting languages)
  • Experiences with the atomistic level of computational simulation and modeling (e.g., quantum chemistry, density functional theory, molecular dynamics, etc.) as a plus
  • Self-motivated to work in a fast-paced research environment with a focus on innovation
  • An excellent communication skill

The pay range below is for all roles at this level across all US locations and functions. Individual pay rates depend on a number of factors—including the role’s function and location, as well as the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, education, and training. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.

Base Pay Range
$82,096$188,800 USD
