The Position
HappyCo is hiring a Senior Engineer, Platform to help scale the foundational systems that power our products and integrations. This role focuses on improving the reliability, performance, and extensibility of the platform while accelerating delivery of roadmap-critical initiatives.
The position plays a key role in three strategic initiatives:
Expand our Property Graph to unlock new product capabilities
Integration reliability and customer visibility to support mid-market adoption and retention
Plugin and API enablement to accelerate ecosystem expansion
This engineer will operate as a hands-on senior individual contributor, owning delivery across platform components including integrations, APIs, and extensibility surfaces. The role requires strong technical judgment, cross-team collaboration, and a focus on measurable production outcomes.
What you'll do (day to day)
Platform Architecture & Development
Design, implement, and maintain scalable platform services and APIs
Lead delivery of roadmap-critical platform capabilities including Property Graph and integration surfaces
Evaluate architectural tradeoffs to ensure reliability, scalability, and extensibility
Integration & Ecosystem Enablement
Build and improve APIs and plugin frameworks enabling partner integrations
Ensure integrations operate reliably across customer environments
Improve visibility and monitoring across integration workflows
Reliability, Observability & Performance
Improve platform reliability, observability, and application performance
Use production telemetry and monitoring data to diagnose and resolve performance issues
Reduce operational overhead and improve system resilience
Cross-Team Collaboration
Work closely with Product Engineering leads and stakeholders to deliver platform capabilities
Support cross-team execution for growth and retention initiatives
Collaborate with product leadership and engineering stakeholders
Production Ownership
Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis
Implement preventative improvements based on operational learnings
Ensure safe rollouts and strong production outcomes
What were looking for
Required Qualifications
6+ years of professional software engineering experience
Technologies Used: Golang, Ruby on Rails & Rust
Strong experience building platform services, APIs, or infrastructure systems
Experience improving system reliability, observability, and performance
Demonstrated experience working on distributed systems or complex backend platforms
Ability to own problems from design through production outcomes
Strong collaboration skills working across engineering and product teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing graph-based data models or complex domain modeling
Experience building developer platforms, plugin frameworks, or extensibility systems
Background working with integration-heavy SaaS platforms
Experience improving operability and observability of production systems
Familiarity with cloud-native architecture and distributed systems

Learn the current platform architecture, core service boundaries, and deployment/runtime model
Build context on high-impact integration pathways, API surfaces, and reliability pain points
Get productive with our observability patterns and incident workflow
First 60 days:
Own and ship at least one scoped improvement to an API or integration surface with measurable impact on reliability, throughput, or operability
Improve instrumentation and alerting for an existing platform workflow
First 90 days:
Contribute to at least one roadmap-critical platform milestone
Participate in at least one incident with documented prevention follow-through
Deliver one measurable application performance improvement
Lead a meaningful cross-team implementation slice in platform scope and ship iteratively
First 12 months:
Platform milestones land with lower execution risk; fewer reliability regressions on key integration and API paths
Faster cross-team delivery of growth and retention priorities
