Principal Platform Engineer

Location: Belfast, Hybrid (2 days in office)

EverQuote is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to join our growing team! As a Principal Engineer on the Platform Engineering team, you’ll be a key driver in developer experience enhancing the tools that empower our engineers to build and deliver high-quality software more efficiently. You will collaborate across teams to design and implement scalable, reliable systems, while mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. This is a unique opportunity to shape the foundation of EverQuote’s technology platform and drive impactful change across the organization.

This is a hybrid role that requires being onsite in our office in Belfast.

What you'll do:

• Develop Internal Applications: Build and maintain Go/TypeScript applications to automate processes, manage infrastructure, and streamline CI/CD for developers.
• Lead Platform Innovation: Define and drive platform strategy to improve productivity and reliability as EverQuote scales.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with product, engineering, and infrastructure teams to build scalable CI/CD, Kubernetes, and AWS solutions.
• Architect Solutions: Design and implement resilient systems using AWS, Kubernetes, Lambdas and Terraform/CDK to speed up software releases.
• Mentor Engineers: Guide and mentor engineers, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Boost Reliability & Scalability: Develop strategies to enhance infrastructure reliability, scalability, and improve observability and incident response.
• Evolve the Platform: Lead improvements in container orchestration, CI/CD, observability practices and more.

Who you are:

• 8+ years of professional Software Engineering experience, preferably with recent technical leadership
• Strong understanding of Developer Experience (DevEx) best practices.
• Recent and proficient experience with Go, Typescript, or similar languages
• Experience with build & deploy systems (CI/CD) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred, & CDK & Cloudformation a plus)
• Expertise in synthesizing complex technical requirements, designs, trade-offs, and capabilities into clear decisions and influencing product direction
• Ability to communicate decisions and practices to the engineering organization effectively
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & standard methodologies for the software development process, including documentation and task management, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, operations, and generation of critical metrics
• At least 2+ years of experience in hands-on work in infrastructure and scaling well architected distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and AWS in a production environment
• Experience in encouraging a strong engineering culture and improving reliability in a growing company, including the ability to work closely with other senior and staff engineers to drive change
• Passion for your craft and genuine care for the people you work with. You value quality across code, communication, and culture

Nice to have:

• Contributions to open-source projects within the CNCF ecosystem.
• Experience with IDP products i.e. Backstage
• Experience with event driven architectures and Event catalogs.
• Hands-on experience deploying and managing developer portals.
• Relevant AWS & Kubernetes certifications
