Senior Embedded Systems Engineer

Barangaroo , Australia
full-time

TLDR

Contribute to groundbreaking aerial imaging technology by developing high-precision embedded systems for capture platforms, focusing on real-time solutions and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Transform aerial capture systems with cutting-edge embedded solutions

Nearmap is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to join our innovative Capture Systems team. Work at the intersection of embedded systems and aerial imaging technology, developing real-time solutions that power our next-generation capture systems. You'll contribute across the full embedded systems lifecycle- from R&D through to production and manufacturing.

Work on sophisticated embedded systems that power our aerial imagery capture platforms used worldwide. You'll be integral to developing real-time solutions for current and future capture system components, contributing across the entire lifecycle from initial R&D through qualification, production, and manufacturing. This is a rare opportunity to work on complex mechatronic systems where precision and reliability are critical.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Real-Time Embedded Systems: Specify, develop, document, and qualify embedded systems solutions for aerial capture platforms, with a focus on bare-metal development and deterministic performance
  • High-Precision Motor Control: Research, develop, and qualify advanced motor control solutions that demand ultra-high precision for aerial imagery capture systems
  • Hardware-Software Integration: Interface embedded software with sophisticated electronic hardware systems, ensuring seamless operation in real-world aerial environments
  • Verification & Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive testing strategies, both cross-platform and on target hardware, to ensure system reliability and performance
  • Control Systems Development: Design and implement linear and non-linear feedback controllers for electro-mechanical applications, combining theoretical modelling with practical implementation
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with multi-disciplinary Technology and Capture Systems teams, contributing to knowledge sharing and driving innovation across the organisation

Who You Are

  • Excellent communicator with strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Positive self-starter who thrives in collaborative, team-oriented environments
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic settings where priorities can shift
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to work effectively across different teams and disciplines
  • Detail-oriented problem solver who can balance theoretical knowledge with practical implementation
  • Passionate about embedded systems engineering and eager to tackle complex technical challenges

Essential:

  • 5+ years embedded systems engineering experience with bare-metal development focus
  • Real-time/deterministic software development expertise
  • Hardware-software interfacing and embedded verification/validation experience
  • Strong algorithmic development skills for mechatronic control systems
  • Experience with feedback controller design and implementation for electro-mechanical applications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer/Electronic/Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering or related field

Highly Regarded:

  • 10+ years embedded systems experience
  • ARM Cortex-M7 architecture expertise
  • Ultra high-precision mechatronic systems background
  • Control systems theory and practical implementation experience
