Hydrow builds connected fitness equipment that combines high performance hardware, software, and immersive content to create a unique workout experience. Our newest strength product, LYQUID, is a connected strength platform built around a complex electromechanical system that combines motors, sensors, power electronics, and embedded software.
As part of Hydrow’s hardware and production team, you will work with a tight-knit group of engineers responsible for designing, building, and supporting the product. The role focuses on resolving electrical issues found in development, manufacturing, and the field, while contributing to design improvements, cost reduction efforts, and preparation for entry into the EU market. You will work closely with hardware, firmware, manufacturing, and supplier teams in the US and Asia to improve system reliability and performance.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL
Contribute to new product development as well as improvements to existing designs, including reliability improvements and cost reduction efforts.
Troubleshoot and debug issues found in production and in the field.
Perform electrical design work including schematic capture, PCB layout, and BOM management.
Travel to manufacturing partners in Asia as needed.
Support EMC and safety certification efforts for US and EU regulatory requirements.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
5+ years of experience developing electronics in the consumer or medical device spaces.
Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems.
Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical teams and maintain clear documentation.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team environment, take ownership of technical problems, and contribute wherever needed to move work forward.
Experience with electronics assembly, rework, and repair.
Experience bringing up and debugging electrical designs using typical laboratory equipment.
Experience integrating electronics into complex mechanical assemblies.
Experience designing PCBs using schematic capture and layout EDA tools such as KiCad or Altium.
Familiarity with certification testing procedures.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Familiarity with BLDC motor drive and eddy current braking systems.
Experience interfacing with various sensor types (e.g. encoders, load cells, thermocouples).
Knowledge of high voltage (<400VDC) and safety isolation schemes.
Experience with C programming for firmware prototyping as well as scripting (e.g. Python, Matlab) to perform data analysis.
Experience with thermal management for electronics.
