POSITION SUMMARY

EO Communities are hybrid groups (both curated and member-led) designed to help members connect more quickly around shared interests, identities, and experiences. The Senior Director, Communities leads the strategic and operational direction of EO’s global Communities ecosystem, overseeing both current and future community offerings. This role is responsible for the intake, design, and ongoing evolution of strategic communities, ambassador communities, the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA), and future community programs and products. The Senior Director maintains a deep understanding of member needs and interests and ensures that EO community groups, products, events, and experiences deliver strong, consistent value.

 

Strategically, as the liaison for the Communities workstream within the Products portfolio, this leader ensures that community strategy aligns with broader organizational priorities while delivering operational excellence. The role balances long-term strategic growth of EO Communities with the day-to-day execution required to ensure programs function at a high standard globally.

 

Operationally, the Senior Director ensures that community leadership, programming, and outcomes are delivered annually with excellence. This leader oversees Communities staff and portfolio initiatives, including contract negotiation, live event design and execution, member leadership development, process innovation, and conflict resolution. The Senior Director leads the team that partners closely with member leaders and regions to plan, co-design, and execute community programming across in-person and virtual formats. This includes responsibility for the overall health and value of EO communities and the leadership development of member volunteers through training, recruitment, engagement, and assessment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development of long-term strategic plans and KPIs for all types of product communities
  • Manage operational delivery to achieve portfolio goals aligned with EO Global priorities.
  • Co-create strategic direction for communities and serve as liaison to key stakeholders; act as the strategic leader for community leadership, engagement, and organizational alignment within the communities workstream.
  • Provide oversight of execution processes and teams, ensuring adherence to SOPs, budgets, quality assurance standards, and protocols; evaluate existing processes and recommend continuous improvements while responding to agile stakeholder needs.
  • Support portfolio initiatives by capturing trends within communities, defining member engagement, and contributing to product roadmaps; analyze data to identify trends and deliver member value in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor overall community health, including leadership effectiveness, engagement levels, and program quality; serve as senior staff liaison for signature community events and large-scale initiatives.
  • Lead the curation of training and upskilling initiatives for community leaders, trainers, members, and staff; recommend revisions to content and training based on data and feedback.
  • Liaise with members and working groups to gather input, design ideas, and address program challenges.
  • Manage communities staff and member volunteer leaders with clarity of roles and a focus on psychological safety; provide onsite and online supervision as needed, coach direct reports to achieve goals, and cross-train staff to support departmental success.
  • Collaborate with Product and organizational leaders to advance strategic initiatives, cross-functional projects, and team development efforts.
  • Provide onsite and online leadership support to other product teams, including global learning and community events, GLC, member leader training, and partnership events as requested.
  • Maintain active professional learning through competitor analysis, emerging learning technologies, and industry best practices; stay informed on future trends in learning, community building, and engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, business, education, or related field of study (Master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience, with international experience preferred
  • Minimum 6 years’ learning, community management, or event-related program development and execution experience, preferably in a leadership role
  • Strong understanding of and demonstrated experience in global learning and live events, online community platforms, instructional design tools, negotiation, best learning practices, entrepreneurial programming, and innovative approaches to human connection, engagement and belonging
  • Knowledge of EO’s structure and product ecosystem is preferred
  • Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable strategies for stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team and work collaboratively with colleagues through an influence-based leadership style
  • Ability to work in teams with high accountability, willingness to work with ease across cultures, geographies, and time zones, and strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to interact with entrepreneurs with tact, diplomacy and poise
  • English language fluency required, other languages are an asset
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, both domestically and internationally
