About the role:

LRN is seeking a high-performing Senior Director, Business Intelligence and Data. This is a dynamic and multifaceted role critical in supporting LRN’s growth. Reporting directly to the CFO and collaborating closely with Finance, Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, and Product teams, this position will be responsible for establishing and building LRN’s Business Intelligence and Data function to enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.  The role encompasses (1) Partnering with systems and technical teams to integrate data from multiple platforms to create a comprehensive view of business performance, (2) Experience applying AI-enabled tools and advanced analytics to drive forecasting, retention insights, and business planning, and (3) presenting actionable insights to diverse audiences, including the board of directors. Over time, this role is expected to play an increasingly strategic leadership role in financial planning, forecasting, and performance management as the function and organization scale.

What you'll do:

  • Central Data Authority: Ensure alignment on data definitions, governance standards, and reporting consistency to support reliable decision-making across departments.
  • Lead Predictive Analytics Initiatives: Lead the development and application of predictive analytics and AI-enabled models to forecast trends, identify opportunities, and mitigate risks that inform business planning, sales forecasting, and strategic decision-making.
  • AI Integration: Leverage AI tools and platforms to enhance data analysis, automate repetitive tasks, and uncover deeper insights, improving efficiency and accuracy in reporting.
  • Data Visualization and Reporting: Create compelling, audience-tailored data visualizations and presentations using Excel, PowerPoint, and AI-enhanced visualization tools (e.g. Domo, Tableau, or Power BI) to communicate insights to stakeholders, including the board, leadership team, and cross-functional partners.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Finance, Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, and Product teams to align data-driven and AI-enhanced insights with business objectives, demonstrating a deep understanding of LRN’s business model and strategic goals to drive efficiency and growth. Such insights will lead to improvements in forecasting sales, customer retention and more.
  • Process Optimization: Identify and implement improvements in data analysis and reporting processes, partnering with technical teams to enhance underlying data workflows as needed Identify and implement improvements in data collection, analysis, and reporting processes, utilizing AI to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Business Insight Development: Deeply analyze business operations, client needs, and market trends to provide actionable recommendations that align with LRN’s mission and growth objectives in the ethics and compliance space.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Support: Support potential M&A activities to ensure data-driven decision-making about the target’s business.
  • Data Extraction and Analysis: Leverage and analyze integrated datasets from various platforms, ensuring accuracy and consistency in reporting.

Requirements

What we're looking for:

The Ideal Candidate: A proactive, analytical thinker with a passion for transforming data into actionable insights, a strong understanding of business models similar to LRN, and the ability to manage complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proven Experience: 10+ years of experience in business intelligence and data area with a B2B SaaS or technology-driven company, with hands-on experience using AI and other tools for analytics and supporting sales and retention processes, as well as customer analysis.  The successful candidate will have worked in related roles (e.g., Sales Finance or FP&A) which leveraged data significantly.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools (eg Domo, Tableau, or Power BI); Experience with AI-enabled analytics platforms and familiarity with CRM and marketing systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) is required.
  • Knowledge of SaaS Businesses and the Recurring Revenue Model: In-depth understanding of SaaS metrics in a B2B environment (e.g., ARR, MRR, churn, LTV) and their impact on business strategy, coupled with the ability to translate data insights into business outcomes.
  • Strong Experience in: Developing predictive models, conducting data analysis, creating data visualizations for diverse audiences, including senior leadership, and performing financial and operational forecasting and analysis. The successful candidate will have significant experience in working with FP&A, Sales and Customer Success to forecast future results, as well as to understand the customer base, retention drivers, related profitability and more. 
  • Deep Business Understanding: Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze B2B SaaS business operations, including customer acquisition, retention strategies, and market positioning. 
  • Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills: Ability to distill complex data and insights into clear, concise, and actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences, with a focus on aligning insights with business objectives.
  • Collaboration and Independence: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, global environment, managing multiple priorities and stakeholders effectively.
  • Ability to Manage: Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and clear alignment with business goals.
