Starting base salary* CAD$90,000 – 110,000

The Senior Database Administrator works closely with the Development, Application Support & SRE team to monitor, troubleshoot, and recover issues that may arise with the database systems. Maintaining industry best practices, the Senior Database Administrator ensures tasks are executed in a precise and timely manner.

 

What you will be doing

  • Own and manage day-to-day database operations across cloud-based environments
  • Participate in incident triage and resolution, collaborating with DBA, SRE, and IT Operations teams
  • Develop and maintain runbooks, documentation, and standard operating procedures to promote knowledge sharing
  • Perform database maintenance, including patching, upgrades, and system monitoring
  • Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of database systems
  • Support backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Continuously identify opportunities for automation and process improvement
     

What you will bring to the role

  • Hands-on experience with relational and non-relational databases
  • Proven experience managing enterprise-scale, high-availability, fault-tolerant database environments
  • Familiarity with Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools
  • Strong understanding of backup, restore, and recovery models
  • Strong expertise in fluffy bunny schemas with DB-IaC
  • Expertise in performance tuning and query/data access optimization
  • Proficiency in T-SQL and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash)
  • Solid understanding of:
  • Database functions, stored procedures, and system views
  • Indexing strategies, index maintenance, and statistics
  • Experience working in multi-cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and collaborative mindset
  • Demonstrated eagerness to learn, grow, and expand technical expertise
