Senior Data Scientist

AI overview

Lead the design and development of advanced statistical and machine learning systems leveraging large language models and mentoring junior data scientists to strengthen data capabilities.

At Go1, we’re on a mission to help organizations deliver learning and development in more relevant, timely, and effective ways. From a small startup to now a global brand - we’ve grown by solving hard problems, embracing ambiguity, and never standing still.

If you thrive on change, get energy from big, complex challenges, and are excited to grow fast alongside smart, ambitious people, then Go1 might be exactly what you’re looking for. We offer autonomy with accountability, space to experiment, and the opportunity to shape solutions that impact millions of learners worldwide. We don’t have all the answers — and that’s the point. We figure it out together. Every line of code, every conversation, every bold idea helps move us closer to our mission: to enable individuals, organizations, and society to progress. There’s still so much to build — and even more to discover. Go there with us...

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist to lead the design and development of advanced statistical and machine learning systems, leveraging large language models and experimentation to elevate product experiences and drive product and commercial decision science across our ecosystem.

This is a generalist role at a pivotal stage in our data science evolution. You will work across high impact domains including retention, personalisation, attribution, forecasting, classification and experimentation. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, identifying the opportunities that matter the most, eliciting requirements, and rapidly iterating from concept to production. You build solutions that start lean and exploratory, then evolve into robust, trustworthy, scalable data pipelines once value is proven.

We operate in a fast paced environment that embraces lots of change. You will join a strong Data Intelligence team of Data Engineers, Data Analysts and a Data Scientist, while partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Commerical and other functions to solve meaningful business problems. You combine deep expertise in machine learning and statistical modelling with sound judgement, knowing when to prototype quickly and when to invest for the long term. You are thoughtful about technical trade-offs and motivated by solving problems that have not yet been tackled at scale.

With a business wide perspective you focus on the highest priorities, assess feasibility pragmatically, and guide stakeholders toward solutions that deliver measurable impact. You will also mentor Data Scientists, and also Data Analysts in the practical application of statistical techniques, strengthening data capability across Go1.

Data Science Product Lifecycle

  • Assess the feasibility of initiatives and experiment with new methodologies to validate concepts and improve algorithms
  • Influence business goals, supporting the Data Intelligence Leader in the shaping of our DS Roadmap, services and priorities
  • You will analyse large and vast amounts of data and design and build (Python, SQL) reliable, fit for purpose data solutions
  • Structure experiments, analysing the outputs and using them to improve performance, as well as recommending ways to improve our experiment infrastructure and approach, to make them faster and more robust
  • Partner with Engineering to evaluate and optimise LLM and agentic capabilities through robust measurement frameworks and experimentation

Data Analysis and Insights

  • Perform critical analyses to inform our strategy, product direction and commercial priorities. Retrieving, synthesising and presenting insights in a format that is immediately useful to answering specific questions, or improving performance
  • Develop and evaluate models that improve personalisation and recommendations systems, enhancing user engagement
  • Develop and apply lifecycle, retention, and propensity analyses to identify growth opportunities and reduce churn risk
  • Design and refine attribution frameworks to better understand acquisition effectiveness and revenue drivers
  • Conduct exploratory analysis to uncover trends, patterns, risks and opportunities across engagement, monetisation, and performance

Communication, Collaboration and Leadership

  • Collaborate cross functionally with Product, Engineering, Content, Customer, Marketing and Sales, Finance
  • Mentoring of other Data Scientists as they join our team

Skills and Experience required

  • Proficient with data querying languages (SQL), scripting languages (Python)
  • 5+ years of data science experience
  • 2+ years of a/b testing and data visualisation experience
  • Experience of successful deployment of AI solutions into Production environments with appropriate governance controls
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Required experience with statistical models (regression) and ML models (retrieval, ranking, reinforcement)
  • Required experience designing evaluation approaches for AI solutions, ML and LLMs (Agents desirable)
  • Desired understanding of personalisation algorithms
  • Desired experience in large scale distribution systems (Spark, Elasticsearch) and managing DS pipelines
  • Desired Master or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or related field
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
