About the team

The Careem Data Science team extracts competitive value from data at large scale. Our mission encompasses the development of  AI models to enhance user experiences, streamline decision making, optimize operational efficiencies, and lead the region’s AI ecosystem. 

As a key leader of this team, you will be at the forefront of fulfilling this mission. You'll collaborate with and lead the foremost data science experts in the region, harnessing the power of AI to address day-to-day challenges through cutting-edge machine learning, optimization, deep learning, and Generative AI. These models are deployed on our proprietary in-house AI platform, delivering real-time solutions to our users 

What you'll do

  • Build, lead and cultivate a geographically dispersed Data Science team, fostering collaboration with cross-functional units
  • Play a pivotal role in shaping our AI strategy, crafting roadmaps, and establishing long-term objectives for seamless execution.
  • Develop a comprehensive roadmap for the data science teams, encompassing goals and team development, working closely with product and commercial leaders.
  • Pioneer the development of modern techniques, AI models, and data practices that unlock solutions to seemingly insurmountable questions and create substantial impact opportunities.
  • Collaborate with and influence leadership, ensuring that the team's efforts directly contribute to the organization's overarching strategy.
  • Foster robust partnerships with engineering and product teams, enabling the successful execution of major cross-functional initiatives.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the region's AI community, collaborating with universities and the broader industry ecosystem.

What you'll need

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field - computer science, statistics, economics, or mathematics
  • Minimum of 8+ years of professional full-time experience working with data science and machine learning teams
  • Proven expertise in establishing, managing, and scaling data science teams 
  • Strong track record in delivering high impact from Data Science and AI through leading multiple cross-functional projects
  • History of launching and refining new AI products over time
  • Inclusive leader who encourages risk taking, fosters growth mentality, and instills a culture of ownership, collaboration, and results strong leadership and communication skills, critical thinking, and sound judgment
  • Intrinsic motivation to effect change and elevate the standard of applied AI within the region's ecosystem.
