Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design and build the next-generation data architecture for our multi-tenant SaaS platform. This role will be responsible for architecting a comprehensive data warehouse, analytics framework, and integration platform that enables full data interoperability across our ecosystem. This hands-on role will maintain and enhance our Snowflake and dbt environments, build and manage data pipelines, and handle operational data infrastructure tasks to relieve pressure on DevOps. The ideal candidate is a strong AWS practitioner who writes code daily, thinks through data landing patterns, and can independently spin up infrastructure components. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in modern data architectures, ETL/ELT pipelines, and building scalable data platforms that support both operational and analytical workloads. Strong AWS skills and implementation capabilities are the core requirements, while data warehouse design experience is valuable but not a hard requirement.
Location
This is a remote position, but preference will be given to applicants in the Eastern time zone, especially in traveling distance to the company headquarters in Philadelphia, PA
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Pipeline Development
Design and build scalable data pipelines in AWS for data ingestion and transformation
Build, deploy, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS services (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, etc.)
Design and implement data landing patterns for various source systems and formats
Implement data quality checks, error handling, and monitoring for pipeline reliability
Create reusable pipeline patterns and templates for common data integration scenarios, potentially leveraging modern data tools like dbt to handle transformations at scale
Troubleshoot and resolve issues with data pipelines, transformations, and warehouse performance
Monitor and optimize query performance, warehouse utilization, and pipeline costs
AWS Infrastructure & Operations
Independently spin up and configure AWS resources including S3 buckets, IAM roles, Lambda functions, and data services
Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation for data-related resources
Handle operational data infrastructure tasks that would otherwise burden the DevOps team
Integrate with various data sources (APIs, databases, file systems) and destinations
Optimize data infrastructure for performance, cost, and reliability
DevOps Collaboration & Team Support
Serve as the technical bridge between DevOps and the data team
Collaborate on infrastructure decisions, security policies, and operational procedures
Take ownership of data infrastructure tasks to reduce DevOps workload
Document data infrastructure patterns and operational runbooks
Participate in on-call rotation for data pipeline and infrastructure issues
Contribute to data warehouse design and dimensional modeling when needed
Help design data models that support analytical workloads
Assist with data governance and quality frameworks
