Senior Data Engineer - Power Platform - REF5084T

TLDR

Ensure the reliable operation of Power Platform components while consulting business teams on effective analytics solutions and aligning frontend and backend operations.

We are looking for a technically skilled and service-oriented Data Engineer to join our international Common Data Intelligence Hub.  This role focuses on the Power Platform frontend of our Cloud Data & Analytics Platform and acts as the bridge between Self-Service BI teams and the Azure Lakehouse backend.

Our Cloud Data & Analytics Platform provides a standardized and governed framework that combines the power of Azure Lakehouse technologies (Data Factory, Databricks, dbt, CDC Framework) with Microsoft Power Platform services (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint Online). It enables business units to build and operate their own analytics and reporting solutions while ensuring compliance with enterprise-grade security, governance, and data management standards.

As a Data Engineer, you will ensure that these self-service solutions operate reliably, securely, and efficiently following established standards within the platform. You will consult and coach business and data teams on how to use the platform effectively - guiding them through the technical framework, governance principles, and best practices for designing sustainable analytics solutions. You will also collaborate closely with platform engineers to keep both the frontend (Power Platform) and backend (Lakehouse) layers aligned operationally and continuously

Platform Operations & Maintenance:

  • Ensure reliable and performant operation of the Power Platform components (Power BI Service, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint Online) within the Cloud Data & Analytics Platform.
  • Monitor platform usage, performance, and capacity to ensure optimal allocation of resources and cost efficiency.
  • Manage and maintain Power BI gateways and secure data connections to the Azure Lakehouse backend (ADF, Databricks, dbt, CDC Framework).
  • Oversee role-based access control (RBAC) and workspace permissions in alignment with corporate governance and Azure security principles.
  • Monitor and optimize data refresh and load processes to ensure freshness, stability, and reliability of analytical datasets.
  • Collaborate with platform engineering teams to resolve incidents, coordinate upgrades, and drive technical improvements across both frontend and backend layers.
  • Develop standardized operational dashboards and reports to bring transparency into platform usage, capacity, and performance metrics.

Governance & Best Practices:

  • Consult and coach Self-Service BI teams on the effective use of Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate within the established governance framework.
  • Guide new teams through onboarding, workspace configuration, and compliance processes.
  • Act as a trusted advisor for technical and architectural questions related to the Power Platform and its integration with the Lakehouse.
  • Promote and enforce best practices for solution design, performance optimization, and lifecycle management within the platform.
  • Maintain and continuously improve documentation, including configuration guides, troubleshooting playbooks, and governance guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to data privacy, security, and compliance standards, supporting internal audits and governance reviews when required.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay current with new capabilities and feature releases in the Microsoft Power Platform and Azure ecosystem.
  • Evaluate new functionalities for potential adoption within the Cloud Data & Analytics Platform and prepare proof-of-concepts if needed.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency, proposing and implementing improvements in monitoring, deployment, or access management.
  • Share expertise within internal communities of practice and contribute to knowledge exchange across teams.
  • Support the continuous alignment of the Power Platform frontend with evolving Lakehouse architecture, governance principles, and data engineering standards

. You will succeed if you:

  • Have hands-on experience with Power BI Service and Power BI Desktop, including workspace configuration, dataset refreshes, and gateway management.
  • Are familiar with Power Apps and Power Automate for implementing and supporting business process automation within a governed environment.
  • Understand the fundamentals of Azure governance, identity, and security principles (RBAC, service principals, data access control).
  • Have practical experience in incident and problem management — diagnosing, documenting, and resolving platform issues in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Communicate complex technical topics clearly and confidently to non-technical stakeholders and business users.
  • German knowledge is advantage
