We're looking for an

Senior Data Engineer, Global Data Warehouse


Based in the UK, working remotely, one day per week in the London office, and reporting to the Lead Engineer, Global Data Warehouse, the successful candidate will be a key technology engineer in our business with responsibility for data development for Hamilton employees.


The successful candidate will be comfortable with a variety of data warehousing technology, architecture and large-scale distributed systems and operate like a hands-on technologist who can provide architectural leadership and development in the engineering of global data warehouse platforms.



What you will do

  • Provide development and support for a variety of SQL/Synapse DWH’s and Databricks Lakehouse solutions working closely with the business and PowerBI developers to ensure accurate and reliable report delivery
  • Support the global data warehouse development across multiple business departments
  • Deliver data for global reporting to enable real-time business decisions across Underwriting, Claims, Risk and Analytics departments
  • Hands-on engineering in driving design sessions, architectural choices, code versioning, code reviews, unit testing, build processes and deployments
  • Design data architecture, including logical and physical models
  • Ensure overall roadmap is understood and delivered
  • Develop scalable consumer-grade applications for a global environment
  • Develop exceptional user experiences
  • Be part of a strong internal and external team of engineers who are passionate about problem solving
  • Contribute to the training of all members of the development team
  • Follow the standard agile methodology for development

What you require for the role

    • Extensive experience in building data engineered solutions in the cloud, utilising:
    • o Azure SQL DBo Azure Data Factoryo Developing data warehouse architectures and database management
    • o Python and T-SQL
    • o Azure DevOps including CI/CD
    • o Synapse
    • o Databricks
    • High proficiency in dimensional modelling techniques and their applications
    • Experience with best in breed code management and documentation practices using Git and preferably Azure DevOps
    • Agile Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
    • Strong analytical, consultative, and communication skills; as well as the ability to make good judgments and work with both technical and business personnel

    Nice to have:

    • Insurance/Re-insurance industry experience would be advantageous
    • Power BI experience
    • Exposure to Fabric
