Senior Data Engineer

AI overview

Lead the development of CoLab's core data infrastructure to enhance product strategy and customer insights while collaborating with multiple departments.

About CoLab

At CoLab, we want to help mechanical engineering teams bring life-changing products to market years sooner.

CoLab is a cloud based platform for engineering design review. We make it easy for subject matter experts (SMEs) across your business to access, evaluate, and comment on 2D drawings and 3D models. Our built-in AI peer checker, AutoReview, scans designs for common errors or non-compliance with your standards and guidelines. AutoReview creates markups and comments on your files, in context – just like a human checker.

With CoLab, human SMEs and AI work together to help you make better decisions and improve designs faster. We automatically capture knowledge from across your global business that would otherwise be buried in emails, spreadsheets, slide decks, and unknown locations in Sharepoint or PLM. Then, we make sure every lesson learned and every design guideline is applied exactly when it matters.

Companies like Johnson Controls, Komatsu, Schaeffler, and Polaris have launched products 40% faster, cut BOM costs by 50%, and reduced quality escapes by 15% in 1 year.

About the Role
CoLab is hiring our first Data Engineer to stand up the core data infrastructure that will power product strategy, customer insights, and company-wide decision-making.
You’ll be the point person for building the systems that connect and process our critical data—from product usage to customer activity to financial systems—into a unified platform. From there, you'll help make that data accessible through a variety of analytics tools. This is a net-new role with huge scope. You’ll report directly to our Manager of CloudOps and work cross-functionally with teams like RevOps, Finance, and Product.
While your title is “Data Engineer,” success in this role also requires the mindset of a Data Analyst and the judgment of a systems builder. You’ll need to navigate both infrastructure and insight—and help define what great data ops looks like at CoLab.

Our Ideal Candidate
You’re an experienced data generalist who thrives when given autonomy and a complex problem to solve. You’ve built pipelines, transformed messy data, and structured clean reporting layers. You don’t wait to be told what to do—you show up with a plan. And you're comfortable working across stakeholder groups who aren't all technical.
You’ll thrive in this role if you’re comfortable being the first in a new role, and know how to build without a blueprint. You’ve set up data infrastructure before within an AWS environment and you can shift between data engineering and analytical thinking based on the problem. Our ideal candidate is collaborative, curious, and motivated by outcomes.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build the end-to-end data platform at CoLab—starting with internal product, customer, and business data.
  • Connect tools like Mixpanel, Pendo, Salesforce, HubSpot, and our product infrastructure into a unified environment.
  • Use AWS services (Glue, S3, Athena, Redshift Serverless) to build scalable ETL pipelines.
  • Own and manage data transformation, cataloging, and processing workflows.
  • Work with CloudOps to inherit foundational infrastructure, then extend and configure it for production use.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across RevOps, Finance, Product, and Engineering to understand what data they need—and make it accessible.
  • Build and maintain clean data layers and support Tableau-based dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Contribute to automation and ops where it makes data flows more reliable or scalable.
  • Own data quality, structure, and lineage—this is your domain.

What You’ll Need

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or related technical roles
  • Experience building AWS-based data pipelines using tools like S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and ETL orchestration
  • Strong analytical thinking and comfort working across business and technical contexts
  • Familiarity with tools like Airbyte, 5Tran, or other data integration platforms (nice to have)
  • Experience working with modern BI tools (e.g., Tableau)
  • Ability to work independently and bring structure to ambiguous environments
