As a Senior Code Inspector, you will be responsible for performing highly technical inspection work for the day-to-day completion of building inspections (Building, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing). Job Responsibilities:
Travel safely to various job sites in a company provided vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, inside/outside upkeep and complete monthly vehicle inspection reports)
Conduct inspection of residential buildings to ensure compliance with building codes, zoning regulations and approved plans
Perform on-site inspections at different stages of construction, including foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing and final inspections
Ensure that all testing equipment used is functioning properly, maintained as required by company and/or manufacturer’s policy and that all calibrated equipment is withing its calibration cycle
Ensure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements and company policies or procedures
Evaluate structural integrity, safety features, fire protection systems, accessibility and energy efficiency of buildings
Determine whether changes may be required in plans and make recommendations to contractors, engineers, architects, etc.
Identify and document code violations, deficiencies or non-compliant issues during inspections
Maintain accurate, complete and current inspection records
Conduct follow-up inspections to verify that corrective actions have been completed and compliance has been achieved
Exercise tact and courtesy when conducting inspection and dealing with clients
Prepare reports and inform data in a complete, timely and understandable fashion and return as required to a branch office
Complete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy
Ensure that project requirements are met and compliant with inspection specifications, requirements and company policies or procedures
Cellular phones are to be worn at all times with calls being returned immediately
Attend all department meetings
Follows all company safety procedures and policies
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
High School diploma or equivalent
Must be at least 18 years old for entry onto job sites
Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record
3+ years of prior residential building inspection experience
Required: Minimum of three licenses (ICC B1, E1, M1, and P1)
Ability to read and interpret construction documents
Ability to accurately complete reports and detailed figures
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence and memos
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization
Strong written and verbal communication and ability to use technology/computer
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Days and hours vary for this position but are typically Monday-Friday with some weekends, holidays and overtime as needed
Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments
Long-term standing, sitting and repetitive motions
Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit)
You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day within the Mid-Atlantic region
Some weekend, overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required
Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 lbs. regularly and up to 75 lbs. on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation
