Summary:

The Senior Cloud Systems Engineer will support the design, development, and maintenance of a cloud business platform for the Federal Reserve Board. The ideal candidate has deep experience in AWS GovCloud and modern cloud engineering, DevOps, automation, and secure system design. Candidates must have at least ten (10) years of technology experience, including five (5) years working with cloud technologies and five (5) years supporting cloud platforms. A critical requirement is hands-on experience as an AWS GovCloud Administrator, with the ability to configure, manage, secure, and operate GovCloud environments.


Required Qualifications:

  • Cloud Engineering Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of technology experience, including at least five (5) years focused on cloud technologies and five (5) years directly supporting cloud platforms.
  • AWS GovCloud Administration: Direct, hands-on experience as an AWS GovCloud Administrator, including configuration, security, permissions, monitoring, and operational management.
  • Software Development & SDLC: Experience developing software within structured SDLC methodologies such as DevOps, Agile, Lean, or Iterative. Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including Python, PowerShell, or infrastructure-as-code frameworks (CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Terraform). Preferred: Python 3.x for data engineering (pandas, Databricks, Spark).
  • Cloud Architecture & Deployment: Experience designing, deploying, and migrating secure and scalable systems across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments. Strong understanding of cloud-based architectures, including web servers, caching, application servers, load balancers, and storage. Preferred experience with AWS Load Balancers and modernizing legacy systems.
  • DevOps & Automation: Hands-on experience with DevOps pipelines, CI/CD automation, containers, and cloud deployment best practices. Preferred: GitLab or Azure DevOps, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS EKS, ECS, or Fargate.
  • Identity, Security & Compliance: Knowledge of cloud federation and authentication technologies such as SAML, Okta, OAuth, and OpenID Connect. Understanding of security risks and compliance requirements in high-security cloud environments. Preferred experience with FedRAMP, FISMA, and secure federal cloud deployments.
  • AWS Services Expertise: Experience with AWS and AWS GovCloud service offerings, including CloudTrail, CloudWatch, S3, RDS or Aurora, PostgreSQL, Lambda, Glue, MWAA (Airflow), and API Gateway.
  • Cost Optimization & Governance: Understanding of cloud cost structures and the ability to design cost-effective solutions.
  • APIs & Data Services: Experience with RESTful APIs, XML, JSON, AWS API Gateway (preferred), cloud analytics/data-processing/ML architectures (e.g., data lakes), and data quality tools such as Great Expectations or Glue Data Quality.
  • Observability & Architecture Frameworks: Experience integrating cloud systems with observability platforms (e.g., Splunk) and familiarity with the AWS Well-Architected Framework. Experience defining platform-level requirements.


Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of technology experience
  • At least five (5) years focused on cloud engineering is also required.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and Develop Cloud Applications: Create secure, maintainable, and scalable cloud-based applications that support business needs.
  • Build and Configure DevSecOps Environments: Develop and maintain automated DevSecOps pipelines, integrating security, automation, and continuous delivery best practices.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Architect, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure in collaboration with the cloud platform and application development teams.
  • Platform Support: Provide ongoing operational support for cloud platforms, ensuring stability, performance, and security of applications and services.
  • Migration and Modernization: Assist in transitioning legacy systems to cloud-ready architectures and modernize existing platforms.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement cloud security best practices, monitor environments for compliance with federal regulations (FedRAMP, FISMA), and manage access control and permissions.
  • Automation and CI/CD: Develop scripts, templates, and automation tools to support infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Observability and Monitoring: Integrate cloud systems with enterprise monitoring platforms (e.g., Splunk) and implement logging, alerting, and analytics for performance and security.
  • Collaboration and Consultation: Work closely with cross-functional teams to define requirements, provide technical guidance, and implement cloud solutions that meet business objectives.
