Senior Business Development & Distribution Manager, APAC, CNBC

OVERVIEW

CNBC International is seeking a high-performing individual to drive Business Development and Distribution for the world’s leading business news brand, in APAC. The CNBC International Commercial group is a small, high-impact team that partners, internally and externally, with C-suite executives to retain and pivot existing revenue streams and fuel long-term growth. We are looking for a collaborative thought leader, with a keen understanding of our industry trends, to lead CNBC’s Business Development and Distribution efforts across select accounts and markets.

You will be responsible over the Profit and Loss of Distribution, Business Development and Digital revenue across APAC (excluding mainland China and Korea). Support will be provided by local agents, the Distribution Analyst and the Business Development & Distribution intern, for whom you will hold management responsibility.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and own the APAC commercial sales strategy, with accountability for revenue growth, retention and long-term commercial sustainability.
  • Identify and monetise every distribution opportunity in APAC (excluding Mainland China and Korea) across all operators (cable, satellite, IPTV, telecommunications, FAST, digital, broadband and mobile), across Residential and Commercial (OOH, Inflight etc).
  • Lead senior-level commercial negotiations across new deals, renewals, and complex contract structures, from initial engagement through launch and ongoing relationship management.
  • Proactively grow licensing revenue across platforms and content formats.
  • Proactively optimise existing affiliate agreements to defend and grow revenue through repricing and restructuring, while selectively enhancing client value through additional rights or content (for example, VOD).
  • Identify and deliver cost-saving opportunities across distribution and operational models while protecting reach, brand value, and partner relationships.
  • Research and synthesise market data to identify and evaluate new business, investment and partnership opportunities.
  • Diligently track and report to the VP of Commercial all active and prospective deals. Work constructively with Legal and Finance throughout the lifecycle of each partnership.
  • Lead, develop and support a team of 2, with responsibility for performance, professional growth, and overall wellbeing.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Established results in the media sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of the media business, with a strong focus on television and/or digital media.
  • Established network of affiliate operators, media publishing and other potential media channel partners.
  • Strong research, analytical and financial modelling skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging effectively with senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and ability to learn quickly, with a proven track record of taking on increasing responsibility in collaborative environments.
  • Superior organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively while maintaining attention to detail.

 

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES  

While not essential for this role, candidates with experience or proficiency in the following attributes tend to excel in this position. 

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in a sales role, including a minimum of three (3) years of management experience.
  • Knowledge and background in the media industry, or a relevant media qualification.
