Senior Backend Software Engineer - PHP
TLDR
Lead system architecture and optimize performance with a core team, while mentoring engineers and enhancing code quality in a dynamic, polyglot environment.
About this Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to be a driving force behind our technical solutions and a core contributor to our engineering team. In this role, you will go beyond just writing code - you will drive technical discussions, design scalable system architectures from the ground up, and elevate the team's engineering standards.
We cultivate a "polyglot" engineering culture. While your core strength may lie in specific languages, you must be flexible enough to explore and support the variety of tools and legacy systems our platforms are built on. You will act as a bridge between technical and business teams, ensuring our architecture supports future growth while maintaining high performance.
You Will...
- Drive System Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of system components and services, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and adaptability for future growth.
- Optimize Performance: Identify system bottlenecks, solve complex technical problems, and propose architecture optimizations to improve overall system health.
- Elevate Engineering Standards: Drive improvements in code quality through refactoring, introducing new tools, and leading rigorous peer reviews. Enforce team standards for testing, automation, and deployment pipelines.
- Lead Cross-Functional Initiatives: Act as a key technical partner for cross-functional teams (Product, Data, etc.), translating technical needs into clear business outcomes and taking ownership of shared projects.
- Deliver Iterative Solutions: Break down large, complex projects into smaller, manageable, and iterative steps to ensure consistent delivery.
- Mentor & Share Knowledge: Guide and mentor less experienced engineers, deliver constructive feedback, and share technical knowledge across the company (e.g., via tech blogs, presentations).
You Have...
- Experience: 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong track record of designing and delivering complex, scalable backend systems or services.
- Technical Proficiency: Deep expertise in one or more core technical areas (e.g., web performance, security, specific stacks) with a strong command of PHP, SQL, and TypeScript.
- Systems Thinking: Proven ability to design components from the ground up and conduct architectural reviews.
- Engineering Excellence: Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and enforcing coding best practices.
- Versatility: A willingness to work across different tech stacks, adapt to a polyglot environment, and support or modernize legacy codebases.
- Communication: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to align engineering goals with product and business strategies. Fluency in English.
Bonus Points...
- Ad Tech Expertise: Familiarity with programmatic ad systems, optimization techniques, header bidding (Prebid), Google Ad Manager (GAM), or cookie-less tracking.
- Experience with Java, Node, and Python
- Experience with user privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, IAB TCF) and Consent Management Platforms (like OneTrust).
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Superset).
- Experience working with CDNs, caching strategies, and VCL.
