Senior Backend Engineer - Plans Squad (f/m/x)

About the role: What's in the Box

The service provider will join the Consumer Mega Alliance, Consumer Core Tribe as part of the Plans squad. As a Senior Backend Engineer, the role involves playing a pivotal part in the Consumer Core. The squad is responsible for the mission-critical Customer Plans Domain, which is currently undergoing a strategic evolution.

The focus is not just on maintenance, but on re-architecting how millions of customers interact with the product. This is an opportunity to move a global giant toward its future state architecture, removing technical debt and building the foundation for the next decade of growth. This role does not include people management responsibilities.

What you’ll do: The Recipe

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable back-end services, focusing on distributed architecture and microservices.
• Lead the migration of critical services from a monolithic architecture to a microservices framework, ensuring seamless integration and high availability.
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to team members, promoting best practices in software development, testing, and deployment.
• Analyze system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to ensure optimal efficiency and reliability of services.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying relevant advancements to improve the technology stack and processes.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and decisions, providing technical guidance and insights to shape the overall direction of solution design.

What you’ll bring: The Ingredients

• Strong backend engineering experience, including modernizing legacy systems into monolithic, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka) and real-time lifecycle event processing.
• Proven ability to design orchestration layers for complex end-to-end customer flows.
• Proficiency in Golang (JVM/Kotlin and PHP are a plus), plus experience with PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Solid understanding of TDD/BDD/DDD and distributed systems; experience with e-commerce, subscriptions, and GraphQL is a plus.
• Solid hands-on experience working with AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) beyond casual experimentation. You use AI agents as thought partners to onboard on unfamiliar codebases and navigate new areas of the code with confidence. You have a practical sense of how the context you provide to AI tools - specifications, constraints, examples - shapes output quality, and a developing awareness of how agentic outputs can fail, with growing habits around verifying, testing, and setting boundaries on AI-generated work.
