Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/d) - Checkout - Hamburg or Berlin (hybrid)

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/d) to join our Checkout Team within the Checkout Unit – onsite in Hamburg or remotely within Germany.

Our team ensures a seamless shopping experience by managing the entire order lifecycle – from cart to payment, including chargebacks, refunds, and promotions. A key focus is COBA, a core backend service handling orders, payments, and customer data.

What you will do

• You can take a business problem, translate it into a technical problem, and work with the team to ensure it is properly designed, planned, and delivered.
• Help envision and work hand-in-hand with other colleagues to develop a scalable software architecture for our API written in PHP.
• Embrace modern agile software development methodologies and extreme programming practices such as TDD and pair programming.
• Extensive tech stack: use the right tools for the right tasks without being dogmatic about it.
• Plenty of room for your ideas and creations, flat hierarchies, and very short decision paths.

Who you are

• Proactive problem solver with a strong sense of responsibility and eager to learn
• Able to handle complex technical tasks independently
• Team player, ensuring high-quality, technically sound solutions that amplify team efforts
• 5+ years of experience with PHP, with a strong focus on modern development
• Proven expertise in Symfony or Laravel, following best practices for scalable applications
• Golang experience is a plus
• Solid understanding of engineering principles and software architecture
• Strong experience with MySQL & Redis
• Fluent English communication skills
