Senior Backend Engineer, Growth Alliance (f/m/x)

About the role: What's in the Box

The Conversions Tech area enables meal brands to achieve ambitious growth targets through a seamless and high-performing conversion funnel. As a component of the Growth Alliance, this project drives growth for the HelloFresh group by powering marketing with advanced MarTech capabilities and product innovation. The focus is directed toward (re)acquisition, conversion optimization, and data-driven growth strategies.

You will work in a cross functional team in Conversions that builds and operates the backend systems powering customized user journeys across HelloFresh funnels. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, implement and operate scalable and fault tolerant services that enable personalization, experimentation and decisioning at scale. These systems sit behind high traffic landing pages and funnels and must be fast, reliable and resilient.

You will work closely with frontend engineers, data scientists, machine learning engineers and product managers to bring personalization logic into production and ensure it performs well under real world traffic. Strong communication and problem solving skills are essential, as the role requires frequent collaboration across teams and clear ownership of complex technical problems. We are looking for engineers who can think in systems, operate autonomously and raise the bar for reliability and engineering quality.

What you’ll do: The Recipe

• Work in a cross-functional team typically comprising 6–10 people using a wide range of technologies and frameworks. Your team will be a place where your thoughts and opinions matter, and your contributions will have a tremendous impact on the team’s success.
• Execute the architecture, design, development, deployment, and operations of the microservices, using modern AI tools, DevOps practices, pair programming, and other cutting-edge methodologies.
• Be an active, solution-oriented contributor to autonomous, cross-functional agile teams collaborating with product owners, frontend engineers, data engineers, and business intelligence teams.
• Maintain an in-depth understanding of the core product and architecture, acting as a technical representative for software solutions, and offering support and technical guidance to colleagues.
• Work with state-of-the-art technologies like Kafka, RabbitMQ, Spark, Kubernetes, Istio, Helm, Terraform, and more.
• Autonomously drive complex business challenges from conception through to resolution and deployment, strategically leveraging modern AI tools, DevOps practices, and other cutting-edge methodologies.

What you’ll bring: The Ingredients

• Expertise in end-to-end backend development using Go, with Python experience considered a strong plus, including unit, integration and functional testing, application tuning, profiling and continuous integration
• Solid backend experience working with an event-driven microservices architecture using Kubernetes, RabbitMQ, Kafka, CQRS pattern, etc.
• Experience working with relational databases, like PostgreSQL, and object stores, like AWS S3
• Demonstrable experience with agile methodologies, with a strong focus on delivery, lean thinking, and quick iterations
• You seek to develop yourself and learn from your peers continuously
• You thrive in the opportunity to collaborate and mentor team members, while also sharing practical knowledge and trends
• Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog
• Demonstrable experience strategically utilizing modern AI tools and cutting-edge methodologies (eg, vibe coding, pair programming) and actively acting as an ambassador to bring this AI mentality into the team.
• Practical experience integrating third-party vendors, APIs, and external systems (eg, marketing platforms, messaging services, or similar B2B integrations).
