We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our team dedicated to developing innovative cloud-based services for the healthcare industry. Backend engineers design, build, operate, and maintain the various cloud-based services that power BrainHi. In this role, you will solve complex technical challenges and own a significant portion of the software stack that enables hundreds of thousands of patients to receive vital healthcare services. You’ll write high-quality code, design reliable systems, and operate the software you build by participating in on-call rotations.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain backend systems and APIs to support scalable cloud-based healthcare solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including frontend engineers, platform engineers, designers, customer success members and product managers, to deliver high-quality, user-centric solutions.
- Optimize system performance to handle increasing data loads, ensuring scalability and reliability for production environments.
- Architect and implement effective data management strategies for scaling databases and ensuring data integrity and security.
- Develop comprehensive unit tests, perform code reviews, and uphold engineering best practices for quality and maintainability.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare industry standards and regulations, including HIPAA and other data protection requirements.
- Proactively troubleshoot and resolve complex backend and database performance issues.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure the reliability and availability of critical services.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Engineering.
- 7+ years of professional experience in backend software development, with a strong focus on Python and Django
- In-depth knowledge of one or more programming languages (Python required).
- Proficiency in database design and management, with extensive experience using PostgreSQL in large-scale production environments.
- Proven track record of scaling databases and backend systems to handle significant data loads.
- Solid understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or Google Cloud) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform).
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Excellent understanding of system architecture, microservices, and RESTful API design.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
