Senior Backend Engineer, Active Journey Alliance (m/f/d)

The role 

The position is part of the Active Journey Alliance, which has the mission to maximize retention of active customers. Active Journey Alliance helps customers to create habits with our products, manage their subscription, order the products they love and provide help in the face of errors. 

Our Backend Engineers assume development and operational responsibility for the HelloFresh platform that serves millions globally to deliver the best experience for our customers and internal users.

What you’ll do 

• Take ownership of the architecture, design, development, deployment and operations of the microservices you will develop, using DevOps practices, pair programming and other cutting edge methodologies 

• Be active, solution-oriented member of autonomous, cross-functional agile teams collaborating with Product Owners, Front-end Engineers, Designers, and Business Intelligence teams 

• Having an in-depth understanding of HelloFresh’s core product and architecture, and act as ambassador for software solutions offering support and mentorship to colleagues 

• Work with state-of-the-art technologies like Golang, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes and more

What you’ll bring

• Strong background in backend development, with a focus on microservices and distributed systems

• Proven ability to build event-driven architectures using messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, or AWS SQS/SNS

• Proficiency in Go and/or PHP is preferred; experience with JVM languages and a willingness to learn Golang is also welcome

• Practical knowledge of Docker, container orchestration tools like Kubernetes, and CI/CD implementation

• Solid foundation in testing practices, including both unit and end-to-end testing

• Deep understanding of relational databases

• Familiarity with MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and/or GraphQL is a plus
