The role

We're seeking a senior backend engineer to build and enhance the critical services that power our business. You’ll be developing systems that manage core financial and underwriting operations, coordinating dynamic machine learning models to increase the intelligence of our industry-leading policy management solution, and optimizing our application’s architecture and observability to meet the performance and reliability demands of our customers.

Your day-to-day

  1. Design and implement client-facing and internal APIs
  2. Orchestrate data flows between backend systems
  3. Create and manage database schemas
  4. Build automated test suites
  5. Lead the design and implementation of substantial product features end-to-end
  6. Evaluate and integrate with third-party services and tools
  7. Help to mentor mid-level and junior engineers on your team

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 or more years experience in a full stack or backend role
  • Technical skills
    • Professional experience with Go
    • Experience designing, developing, debugging, and deploying high performance client/server systems for mission-critical applications
    • Familiarity with a wide variety of database and messaging systems, with opinions on which to use when
    • Comfort working with cloud-based infrastructure providers and modern CI/CD
    • Knowledge of security and testing best practices
  • People skills
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills
    • Growth mindset, and the humility to model it for others
    • Willingness to take initiative and accountability
    • Prior experience as a technical lead or people manager

  • Familiarity with some of the other technologies we use including GraphQL, gRPC, Postgres, Mongo, Snowflake, Kafka, Python, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS
  • Experience in a financial sector such as insurance, banking, or investing

Salary: $195,000 to $280,000*

*Please note that the final salary offered will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills, and experience, as well as the internal salary structure at Quanata. Our aim is to offer a competitive and equitable compensation package that reflects the candidate's expertise and contributions to our organization.

  • Work from Home Equipment: Given our virtual environment— in order to set you up for success at home, a one-time payment of $2K will be provided to cover the purchase of in-home office equipment and furniture at your discretion. Also, our teams work with MacBook Pros, which we will deliver to you fully provisioned prior to your first day.
  • Paid Time Off: All employees accrue four weeks of PTO in their first year of employment.  New parents receive twelve weeks of fully paid parental leave which may be taken within one year after the birth and/or adoption of a child. The twelve weeks is applicable to both birthing and non-birthing parent.

  • Location: We are a remote-first company for most positions so you may work from anywhere you like in the U.S, excluding U.S. territories. For most positions, occasional travel may be requested or encouraged but is not required. Some positions might require travel per the job description provided to the employee. Employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Providence, Rhode Island may commute to one of our local offices as desired.  
  • Hours: We maintain core meeting hours from 9AM - 2PM Pacific time for collaborating with team members across all time zones.
