Senior Associate, Technical Accounting Consulting

Finance Advisory group is seeking a highly experienced Senior Associate, Technical Accounting Consultant to support complex, client-facing technical accounting engagements. This is a highly visible, client-facing consulting role designed for experienced public accounting professionals who want to move beyond traditional audit and into strategic, project-based advisory work. Position Responsibilities:
  • Audit Preparation & IPO Readiness
  • Support clients preparing for PCAOB audits and public company readiness initiatives.
  • Draft and review SEC-ready financial statement disclosures and footnotes.
  • Prepare technical accounting memos and position papers suitable for external auditors and SEC review.
  • Assist with implementation of public company reporting processes and internal controls.
  • Technical Accounting Advisory (Ad Hoc Projects)
  • Lead & support short-term, topic-specific engagements involving complex accounting matters, including:
  • Business combinations (ASC 805)
  • Stock-based compensation (ASC 718)
  • Revenue recognition (ASC 606)
  • Lease accounting (ASC 842)
  • Debt/equity transactions and complex financial instruments
  • Develop detailed accounting workbooks, valuation support schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Serve as a technical resource for client finance and accounting teams.
  • Managed Lease Services Support
  • Support outsourced lease accounting engagements utilizing FinQueary (formerly known as LeaseQuery)
  • Review lease classifications, calculations, and reporting outputs.
  • Provide technical guidance related to ASC 842 compliance.
  • Client Advisory & Project Execution
  • Interface directly with CFOs, Controllers, auditors, and legal teams.
  • Deliver clear, concise technical guidance and practical implementation solutions.
  • Manage workstreams independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure high-quality, audit-ready deliverables within tight deadlines.
  • Qualifications:
  • 4–7+ years of progressive experience in Big 4 or top-tier public accounting.
  • Strong foundation in SEC reporting and public company audit environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with complex technical accounting areas (e.g., business combinations, stock compensation, revenue recognition).
  • Experience preparing technical accounting memos and supporting audit documentation.
  • CPA license (active or eligible).
  • Preferred Experience
  • Direct experience supporting IPO readiness or SEC filings (S-1, 10-K, 10-Q).
  • Experience working with high-growth technology or venture-backed companies.
  • Exposure to lease accounting platforms such as LeaseQuery.
  • Prior consulting or advisory experience preferred.
  • Key Competencies
  • Deep technical accounting knowledge with ability to provide immediate, credible guidance.
  • Strong written communication skills—particularly technical memo drafting.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • High level of professional judgment and problem-solving ability.
  • Client-facing confidence and executive presence.
