Overall purpose and responsibilities of the role:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Residential Draftsperson to join our drafting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing high-quality drawings and documentation for residential and modular building projects. Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit is essential, along with the ability to interpret and apply Building Codes, R-Codes, and relevant Australian Standards.

This role requires excellent technical ability, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to support internal stakeholders such as design, operations, and construction teams.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produce accurate architectural drawings, documentation, and details using Autodesk Revit.
  • Prepare planning and building approval drawings in compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC), local Building Codes, and R-Codes.
  • Interpret and apply relevant Australian Standards and ensure all drawings meet compliance requirements.
  • Prepare detailed construction drawings and documentation for modular building projects.
  • Work collaboratively with the design team, engineers, site supervisors, and project managers.
  • Manage drawing revisions, version control, and updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct research on planning requirements, codes, new products, and materials as needed.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of company drawing templates, libraries, and drafting processes.
  • Provide technical drafting support during project handovers and construction queries.
  • Ensure all documentation is clear, accurate, and delivered within required timelines.
  • Participate in structured training on documentation protocols and modular construction methodology.
  • Liaise with the sales team to interpret client sketch plans and provide design input where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and site supervisors on pre-construction documentation.
  • Focus primarily on pre-construction documentation, ensuring working drawings are ready before construction.
  • Manage multiple modular residential projects simultaneously, meeting strict timelines.
  • Handle drawing revisions and updates in response to pre-start changes and project amendments.

Requirements

Skills & Experience

  • 5–10 years of drafting experience, preferably with Australian residential volume builders.
  • Strong knowledge of modular construction methods.
  • Advanced Revit skills (mandatory), focusing on modular-specific documentation.
  • Strong understanding of the NCC, R-Codes, and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply planning and compliance requirements.
  • Experience preparing documentation for Development Applications and Building Permit submissions.
  • Solid understanding of residential construction methods and detailing.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, high-quality drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, production-focused environment.

 

Qualifications

  • Architecture degree or higher (preferred, not mandatory) to support design capability.
  • Autodesk Revit certification or demonstrated advanced competency.
  • Knowledge of modular construction (desirable).
  • White Card (desirable).
  • Experience with renders or graphical presentations (beneficial).
