About us

Riverlane’s mission is to master quantum error correction (QEC) and unlock a new age of human progress. From advances in material and climate science, to complex chemistry simulation for new drug design, quantum computers will help humanity solve some of its most important challenges. But without QEC, the industry’s defining technical challenge, such breakthroughs can never be achieved.  Riverlane is the world leader in QEC technology. QEC is a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion.

We recently raised $75 million to accelerate our cutting-edge R&D.  We partner with many of the world’s leading quantum computing companies and governments to accelerate their path to utility-scale quantum computers. We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast. Join us!

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced AI/ML Engineer to become a founding member of our brand-new R&D team in Delft, Netherlands.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing machine learning tools for quantum error correction (QEC) and quantum computing.  Our cutting-edge work is at the intersection of quantum science and classical engineering, and as such, you do not need necessarily a background in quantum computing to be successful in this role.

What you will do

As a Senior AI/ML Engineer at Riverlane, you will apply your proven expertise in machine learning, deep learning and other areas of artificial intelligence to pioneer new approaches that accelerate the development of our world-leading quantum error correction (QEC) solutions.

Collaborating with leading QEC researchers, quantum scientists, and software engineers, you will identify and develop innovative AI, ML and deep learning techniques that enable intelligent, adaptive, and scalable QEC tools. From early-stage exploration and prototyping through to model development and deployment, you’ll play a key role in translating AI concepts into impactful technologies that advance quantum computing.

Operating at the forefront of quantum innovation, you will design and deliver proof-of-concept AI applications that inform and shape the next generation of Riverlane’s products. This is an opportunity to work on genuinely novel problems — and to help define how AI transforms the future of quantum error correction.

Requirements

What we need

  • A background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related technical field
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience in machine learning, deep learning and other areas of artificial intelligence (can be from industry or an academic (post-doc) environment)
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages, preferably Python and/or C++
  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms
  • Proven experience working with ML frameworks such as JAX, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.
  • Solid understanding of neural network architectures e.g. transformers, CNNs, RNNs, LLMs.
  • Solid understanding of training techniques (supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement)
  • Experience with ML model design and optimization, including model training, evaluation, fine-tuning, and model interpretation
  • Experience with leveraging GPU or TPU acceleration for training and evaluation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and collaboration skills
  • Eligibility to work in the Netherlands without a work permit (regrettably we are unable to provide sponsorship for work permits for this position)

Even better if you have

  • Familiarity with quantum information theory and quantum error correction
  • Experience with scientific computing and data analysis libraries, such as NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas
  • Experience with cloud-computing platforms and infrastructures (such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, GPU-enabled SLURM servers)
  • Knowledge of parallel programming (e.g. CUDA) is a plus
  • Contributions to open-source software or publications in areas related to machine learning for quantum computing
